Impeachment Is Not Dead

Despite the media blackout and the attempted burial by Democratic leaders in the House, the effort to impeach Dick Cheney is far from dead.  The vote this Tuesday displayed four times the support for debating impeachment.  85 Democrats initially voted against tabling which is almost  four times the number (22) of co-sponsors to the Kucinich resolution.

The resolution is positioned exactly where is needs to be in the House Judiciary Committee which is responsible for investigating impeachment and bringing actions for impeachment to the floor.  In fact, very little investigation is needed since most of the impeachable offenses by both Bush and Cheney are recorded on videotape and have already been investigated and documented by the Judiciary Committee two years ago and re-published recently.

I don't need to tell you what to do.  We need to call on the 22 members of the House Judiciary Committee to urge them to vote articles of impeachment against Cheney and bring them to the House floor.  Call Jerry Nadler, Chair of the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties subcommittee at 202-225-2825 or his office at 202-225-5635.

But televised hearings should be held to publicize the impeachable offenses to media and rest of the American people who know more about Britney Spears than the undermining of our constitution.  Cheney and Bush have undermined our constitutional system of checks and balances of co-equal branches, permitted heinous human rights abuses never before countenanced in our nations' history as a matter of official policy,  and led our nation to contemptuous violations of our treaty obligations and federal statutory law.

Most DFA members worked hard on important local elections and now want to devote themselves to the Presidential primaries. And you should all be proud of what you accomplished.  But so long as US agents kidnap, disappear and torture human beings around the world, and the Bush Cheney Administration attempts to justify or make legal its crimes aided by a complacent and complicit Congress, the reputation of the United States and its security and safety are being undermined.  We must demand that the candidates we support join us to demand an end to these appalling, unconscionable actions.  If we do not, we risk the permament loss of our 200 year old democracy.

I support House Resolution 333 calling for the
impeachment of Vice President Richard Cheney. I also
support the impeachment of George W. Bush. As your
constituent, I am writing to insist that you and the
rest of the House of Representatives carry out your
constitutional duties to defend the Constitution of
the United States. It is unconscionable that the House
has obstructed an open discussion of the activities of
the President and Vice-President. This administration
has taken this country into a criminal war, is
threatening to start a new war, and has violated the
constitutional rights of the American people. It is
time for the House to fulfill its constitutional
obligations in response to these impeachable offenses.

That was a "boiler plate" paragraph on an e-mail campaign calling for impeachment.

This is a barely modified version of a letter I sent
to Truthout.org on the 9th of December, 2006.

"What needs to happen in the aftermath of Nancy
Pelosi's call for the "tabling" of impeachment is for
Democrats to realize that the responsibility to uphold
the constitution REQUIRES impeachment proceedings to
be brought against Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice, et
al. Despite this administration's unprecedented level
of secrecy, the evidence is there, in the public
record, from multiple sources of high crimes and
misdemeanors. And, a Grand Jury investigation should
"unlock" any evidence that was attempted to be hidden
from public scrutiny. Bush has done away with
Congressional oversight to a level never attained by
any sitting president and this must end to restore
balance between the branches of government. Nancy
Pelosi's call for no impeachment must not stand. If
Americans across this nation call, write, e-mail and
talk, in person to their elected representatives in a
massive call for impeachment, the message will be
unmistakable and will have to be acted on.
Impeachment is mandatory, under our Constitution and
this is the most egregious example of violations of
public trust in my 50+ years on this planet.
Watergate will pale by comparison to the level of
manipulation and law-breaking committed by this
administration. This must result in impeachment and
nothing less will suffice."

Fast forward nearly a year... This needs to happen for
our nation to put this horrible period of history
behind us and set the record straight. There should
not be waffling on impeachment for political
expediency. Bush's abuse of power is egregious and
our constitutionally dictated mandate must be carried
out. Thank you, Jack

I personally wish GWB Cheney and any other member of the current administration would be impeached only so that it would be made clear to all of you that they have done nothing to warrent this nonsense  Trust me when the NYT that bastion of liberal vitriol comes out and says there's no impeachable offense then that says something
