Reflections
I question the effectiveness of random phone calling. People really got sick of political phone calls long before the seasons was completed. I feel a much more effective way of calling is for volunteers to call people they know or acquainted with -- or the person being called has some recognition of the caller (neighborhood, school, sports, work). You probably can't make as many calls but being more personal the call seem to be more effective.I also question the effectiveness of road side political signs -- after a few days of their arrival they are part of the landscape. What I found to be very effective was to pick up one of these signs and hold it up standing in the same place it was planted. People commuting or just out for a ride started honking, flashing lights, and waving --actually seeing the candidates name.
On election day, shortly after voting, an acquaintance came up to me and asked,"who in the hell is Bob Jones" ( one of the sign I had been holding on a corner somewhere) I gave a short bio. the person then said, " I voted for him, if he's good for you -- he's good for me. Just one example of feedback it happened many times in many different ways and also to many other people.
My lesson was I am going to be more visible and share with people see what I believe is true.
