Current Affairs Committee - Thinking out loud!
Linked to groups: DFA Columbia
I would sure like to see a group of people willing to write letters to the editor and perhaps an occasional op-ed develop to keep current issues out there in front of the public. Perhaps a committee as such could track the DFA weekly message and make the topic such. I know that I am a little prone to procrastination and if part of a committee (or group of some sort), I would likely be more apt to do it.A committee or group of say 4 could mean one letter a month from each member, etc. The group could also aid that week's writer with edits and data if requested. I don't even think the group would have to meet hardly at all unless it wanted to.
Perhaps something already exists about this idea(?).

I am more than willing to be part of a group to write letters and an occasional op-ed piece. I love being able to just communicate with each other without meetings all the time. I do write letters frequently now and could participate in a more organized approach to this writing.

By Del Miller on Dec 6, 2005 7:34 AM ESTGood idea, Craig.
And yes, this idea has been brought up before, both with DFMO and in the Boone County Democrats. It has been surprisingly difficult to gain momentum, though. People sign up but somehow it never gets anywhere.
I think we ought to put some effort into putting Rebecca's Activism workshop in front of lots of people and thus building a large group of people who can put out issues related letters to the editor and letters to elected representatives. That might make getting LTEs written and submitted a more regular thing.
I mentioned at the Dem steering committee meeting and they are in favor of it. But we'll have to do the organizing if it is to happen.
