Dear Member,

Please attend San Diego for Democracy Movie Night on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at 7:00 PM. You can RSVP at:

www.dfalink.com/event.php?id=120...

What: San Diego for Democracy Movie Night
When: Wednesday, October 11, 2006, 7:00 PM
Where: Charlie's house
3931 Mt. Brundage Ave.
San Diego CA 92111

We will be showing a double feature. We will open with a short film from One Care Now.org about SB840, the new universal healthcare initiative for California. I've seen this film and it is very informative and entertaining. A must see that will help you answer questions about this important legislation.

Next will be our feature presentation, Robert Greenwald's "Iraq for Sale". Total running time of the two films combined is less that two hours and there will be plenty of time to socialize for those that wish to do so. Doors open around 6:30pm, movies start at 7:00pm, they should be over by 8:45pm, and if you're not gone by 9:30 I'm going to charge you rent.

So join us for an evening of information, socialization and fun at my house. Feel free to contact me if you want to bring something.

Dick Cheney in San Diego

Join Us to Protest Cheney's San Diego Visit, Tues. 5/23

While Democrats are fighting in Washington for open and honest government reforms, Republicans continue to be entangled with oil, insurance and other industries in a culture of corruption.

Dick Cheney is expanding the GOP web of corruption right here in San Diego at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at Sheraton San Diego - Hotel and Marina, 1380 Harbor Island Dr., 92101 (across from the airport). Cheney will be fundraising for Brian Bilbray, the Supreme Lobbyist Commander and Chief Architect of offshore tax shelters for corrupt corporate interests.

Join the San Diego County Democratic Party and our allies, by standing up to the culture of corruption that Dick Cheney represents. We want to be visible on the corner of Harbor Drive and Harbor Island Drive opposite the entrance to Lindbergh Field Terminal One starting at 9:45 AM, Tuesday, May 23.

Bring your best homemade handheld signs, friends, sunscreen, bottled water and let's give Cheney a warm San Diego Democrats welcome!

We encourage car pooling and public transportation.

What: Anti-Cheney demonstration.

Where: The corner of Harbor Drive and Harbor Island Drive opposite the entrance to Lindbergh Field Terminal One.

Support our seniors/Dump Duncan

I'm passing along an announcement from William McRae, one of our members, about an important event coming up this Thursday, sponsored by MoveOn, a group we can all support in achieving our common goals.

On Thursday May 11th, MoveOn.org is sponsoring "Caught Red-Handed" events all across the country targeting Republican Congress members because of their part in passing the Medicare Plan D program. The Medicare program was written by lobbyists and gives huge tax breaks to the pharmaceutical companies and which prohibits states from being allowed to get a discount on bulk purchased drugs. And on May 15th, President Bush and Congressional Republicans are preparing to slap as many as 14 million seniors with heavy, lifetime penalties because they haven't joined the bewildering new Medicare program - and we need to stand up for our seniors.

In San Diego we are going after Rep. Duncan Hunter and we will be having our event at Grossmont Hospital because of the large amount of seniors who visit the hospital. Using a giant check as a prop, we'll expose the fact that rep. Hunter has recieved thousands of dollars from the drug companies who designed this program and are pushing the deadline. Then, we'll deliver constituent signatures demanding that Congress
cancel the May 15th "Senior Tax" and make the drug program work for seniors, not the corporations."

Dump Duncan!

Exciting stuff...

So can you tell that I don't use the group blog as much as I should? I'm not good about getting on the computer and updating things, but there's a lot of great things happening.

First off, we've got less than 2 weeks to go before the April 11th special election. We need everyone to contact the Francine Busby campaign and find a little time to help out. Especially the last few days of the campaign when it's going to be crucial to get out the vote. If we do our job well, Francine could get the 50% + 1 vote that she needs to go right to Washington DC as our Congressperson. Please check out Francine's website at www.francinebusby2006.org/... and/or call to volunteer at (760) 479-0114 or write to them at Volunteer@BusbyforCongress.org.

Secondly, we're hosting DemocracyFest in July and this is going to be an event not-to-be-missed. Please go to www.democracyfest.us... to buy your tickets, or go to our website at http://www.sdfd.org to find out more about the program. We're continuing to add to our website, so keep checking back for updates on who's coming to DemocracyFest and a host of other exciting developments.

Thanks for joining San Diego for Democracy. Please feel free to join in the conversations and get your friends to sign up too. We're in a competition to be the fastest growing DFA-Link group in the country, and the winner gets a free DFA Training in their city. As nice as that would be, it would be even nicer for the publicity for San Diego for Democracy and our DemocracyFest efforts, so please do what you can to help get more people to sign up over the next 24 hours, and then the next 24 hours after that if we keep advancing. They've structured the competition similar to the college basketball tournament brackets. You can see how we're doing by going to www.dfalink.com/brackets.php?res...

Thanks a lot and again, welcome to San Diego for Democracy.

Anti-war rally

Hey gang...
We're working with the UCSD Dems on holding a huge anti-war rally on March 3rd from 12 noon to... well... whenever we're done. There's gonna be a concert at the end and then a panel discussion that night at Price Center Theater featuring Cindy Sheehan and some other impressive peace activists. We're making a point of having UCSD students take the lead on much of this stuff and I would love to have the UCSD Gen-DFAers involved.

For those of you that don't know me, I'm the chairman of San Diego for Democracy/DFA and am working on putting together some other great stuff for the future that you'll also probably really enjoy getting involved in. (Think concerts, big name politicians and fun stuff like that.)

At any rate, you can call me at 619-972-9897 or e-mail me, or even better, contact UCSD Dems club. Talk to Tom or Dylan from the UCSD Dems. They are meeting again on campus next Monday, Feb 13th at 5:00 pm at Pepper Canyon Apts., #521. I'll be there, let me know if you can get there too.

Thanks...
