Red Bank to Greet Jim Dean on Saturday with Ed Zipprich

Written by: E J Zipprich on Oct 30, 2007 5:43 PM EDT

The Bus for Change and Monmouth for Democracy will be out en force this Saturday.

Starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Red Bank Parking train station parking lot, candidates from all over the 12th Legislative District and Monmouth County will meet with DFA-List candidate Ed Zipprich, his running mates and members of Monmouth for Democracy for a rally.

The Bus for Change will transport candidates and campaign volunteers around Red Bank drumming support for the entire democratic slate in this very red county.

The Bus for Change will host Amod Choudhary who is challenging long-time Republicrook Claire French and Jack Hill, candidate for Sherrif - a candidate who actually has law enforcement experience! Democratic Freeholder Barbara McMorrow will be out with us to support  2 of the strongest democratic challengers she could have hoped for; Steve Schueler and John D'Amico. These guys can actually help Barbara break the stranglehold the GOP has had on the Board of Chosen Freeholders for almost 20 years.

At 3 p.m. The Bus for Change will pull up to Red Bank Democratic HQ to greet Jim Dean who is stopping into town to show his support for Ed Zipprich and the great democratic team headed by Sen. Ellen Karcher and Assemblyman Mike Panter and Amy Mallet.

Come out and enjoy the fun. Sign up at http://www.dfalink.com/event.php?id=23879

Linda...that pumpkin would surely be a treat : )

Phil...the likelihood that I'd have the time for a fishing trip is pretty much nil (too many irons in the fire) but if you're ever in my neck of the woods, let's hook up and wet a line...no need to win a wager for that. April has the best walleye fishing...my favorite.

Congratualtions! I loved to go fishing with my Grandfather. He taught me all about it. I still love to go fishing.

Your daughter is very wise woman. Planned parenthood is a good thing.

Thanks Reed and Susan.  I was proud for my first attempt.  Hubby teased me.  He said "well the artwork was good, the carver....." He got a slug for that. :)

I put out buttons with the pumpkin...some have taken them.

When you posted that spider pic yesterday you had just been countering Indy's specious slurs against Gore, so I thought you posted it to symbolize him trying to lure people into his Edwardian web.

Just goes to show how people can symbolize about anything.

2008 Presidential Candidate Choice Statements

http://www.prochoiceamerica.org/election...

----

For the Record

Statement of NARAL President Kate Michelman Endorsement of Al Gore for President

WASHINGTON - February 15 - Welcome NARAL members, friends, and Vice President Gore. Thank you for being with us today.

We are here because we believe the freedom to choose is a fundamental American right. A right that stands alongside freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and the right to vote as hallmark American values. We are here because that freedom is at risk. It is at risk from an anti-choice Congress and it is at risk from the threat of an anti-choice President. We are here to issue a call to action to every pro-choice voter in our nation: we must work together as never before to elect a pro-choice President.

This Presidential election is a test of values. The value we put on a woman's life—the value we put on her choice to bear a child—the value we put on rearing that child. Values like freedom and equality that are non-negotiable. Values and principles that must bring us together. Values and principles that must guide our votes. Today, these very values and principles guide our endorsement.

We stand here proudly today to announce NARAL's endorsement of Al Gore in the Democratic race for President of the United States. We know that, as President Al Gore will be a strong, effective, and determined leader in the fight to protect a woman's right to choose. He has fought with us on the front lines in the past. We know we can count on him in the future.

Al Gore has fought hard for the rights of women to make their own reproductive decisions. He has stood firm against those who would tear down those rights. In the face of serious threats to reproductive choice—in tough, tough fights, Al Gore stood strong time and time again to defend a woman's right to choose.

Al Gore understands that the freedom to choose is fundamental to the dignity and equality of women and to the health of their families. He understands that choice, and private medical decisions, must be just that, private choices women make without government interference—without violence, harassment, and intimidation.

Every American who has fought to defend this right, every American who believes as we do that we cannot go back to the days before Roe v. Wade, must understand the stark choice in this election. Women's lives, health and rights are at risk. The freedom to choose is far too important to be squandered as merely a wedge between pro-choice candidates. The threat from Republican anti-choice Presidential candidates is too real.

The next President will likely appoint two, perhaps three Supreme Court Justices and countless federal judges. Imagine the appointments made by an anti-choice President: enough to overturn Roe v. Wade and allow states to enact severe and sweeping restrictions on women's reproductive rights. Imagine the Executive Orders. The legislation that would be signed. The Cabinet appointments. The spectre of these threats should compel us to action.

Both of the Republican frontrunners, Senator John McCain and Governor George W. Bush, are anti-choice and the election of either of them would change the course of women's lives.

John McCain, in his own words, said that he believes Roe v. Wade should be overturned and abortion should be illegal. Only three months ago, Senator McCain introduced a bill that would bring back the notorious domestic "gag rule" to deny women information about all of their reproductive health options, compromising women's ability to make fully informed decisions. This year alone, Governor Bush, along with Michigan's Governor Engler, signed more anti-choice provisions into law than any other Governor in the U.S. Women and pro-choice voters must understand that both candidates have publicly stated that Roe v. Wade went too far—that both candidates will use the power of the Presidency to end legal abortion and take away a woman's right to choose.

There is too much at stake in the 2000 elections-the fight for reproductive freedom is the fight for women's equality and rights. The threat to that freedom is too great to be used as a divisive political weapon. The underlying values and principles of choice must be a unifying force in this country. They must be used to energize Americans for the fight ahead to elect a pro-choice President—and our choice is Al Gore.

BTW, did you all see this latest (interesting) National Poll.

We've been receiving many the past couple of days showing strong numbers, like the CBS 32 Al Gore, 37 Clinton. But State Polls all having Al above Hillary and winning, usually against Giuliani.

Well, this blind bio poll was conducted. Not going on name recognition, only giving each candidates bio and.

Al Gore wins, 11 pts above Hill.

Released: October 31, 2007

Zogby Poll: Al Gore Leads Top Tier Dems in 'Blind Bio' Poll

Survey finds most Democratic likely voters would consider a new candidate given the current field’s views on Iraq and global climate change

A Zogby International “blind bio” telephone poll shows that former Vice President Al Gore is favored over the current Democratic frontrunners by likely Democratic Party voters nationwide – particularly among liberal Democrats.

When Democratic likely voters were given brief biographical descriptions of the top three Democratic candidates – New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards – along with the biography of Gore, the former Vice President won 35% support, while Clinton won 24%, Obama won 22% and Edwards trailed with 10% support. Gore’s bio was the top choice of both men (39%) and women (31%), and also most favored by younger voters. Self-described liberal Democrats strongly favored Gore’s bio (43%) over Clinton (21%), Edwards (17%) and Obama (12%). The bio selections of moderate Democrats closely mirrors the choices of likely Democratic voters overall, with 36% giving the greatest preference to Gore’s bio.

Well, here it is. The Zogby poll many of us have been discussing, which clearly shows Mr. Gore could immediately impact this race.

More below, with highlights:

The bio selections of moderate Democrats closely mirrors the choices of likely Democratic voters overall, with 36% giving the greatest preference to Gore’s bio.

and how about this:

Who has the best favorables?:

A separate Zogby Interactive survey also conducted last week shows Gore’s overwhelming favorability among Democrats – 92% gave Gore a positive rating, with 67% saying they held a very favorable view of the former Vice President. This nationwide poll of adults finds the vast majority of progressives (97%) and liberals (98%) view Gore favorably, with more than two in three moderates (67%) holding a positive opinion of Gore.

Who was right on the war from the beginning, is right on the war now, and is in line with Democratic voters (i.e. us) on this?: ....full post: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/1...

Nancy, at it again. she's out campaigning for Al Wynn, the opponent of our list candidate Donna Edwards according to Kos. Theyre raising money to counteract Pelosi fundraiser for Wynn.

Nancy said she admired the activists for their passion, but we were the advocates, and they were the leaders. Hmmph! Guess she forgot that we "advocates" put her "leader" a$$ in office.

If you haven't already donated to Donna, you might want to do that. Nancy is obviously doing this because we have dared to campaign against a Dem. She said we shouldn't be doing it.
They're calling out the big guns against us, our chance to slap them down.

Chinese Chemicals Flow Unchecked to Market

"...The Times found several other companies posing as manufacturers, thereby obscuring a drug’s provenance. In a recent joint statement, chemical associations in the United States and Europe cautioned that globalization has led to a rise in complexity in supply chains, “increasing the potential for contamination, mislabeling or substitution.”

Pharmaceutical ingredients can pass through three or four trading companies, none of which check their quality. The ultimate manufacturer may not realize the ingredients came from an uncertified chemical company..."

===============

Maybe so, but freedom to choose is not freedom to abort. That's called "the right to privacy"

Calling is "freedom to choose" is marketing. Something that is despicable to do, when one considers the tormenting process of one confronted with making such a private, personal decision.

NARAL does our party more harm than good with their marketing. They are a franchise trade association for assembly-line abortion providers. That's what they do.

It's my guess that the need to feel superior grows out of having been made to feel inferior.  It's an effort to arrive at equilibrium.  Unfortunately, the past is not easily undone.  Every failure to achieve superior status puts the striver back in the dumps.  Equanimity is ellusive if it's not where you're starting from.

------------------

hmmm.  that's a rather odd assumption.  just as the speaker at the national level does not represent the majority progressive view, neither does the VT speaker.  guaging the political views of the whole state for one person's preference doesn't seem very, um, progressive.  of course we do have our loony right wingers - reading the history of Gov. Dean's support of civil unions and the death threats he rec'd will prove that.  but I beg to differ on your sarcastic 'a fine example' comment.  Vermont has always and most likely will always be a fine example to the rest of the nation.  jmho, of course.

Let's see.

There's the story of the judge who took his dry cleaner to court for losing his pants.  He's been removed from his position by a judicial review board.

Then there's the church that protests soldiers' funerals.  It was featured in a story yesterday.  The follow-up today is that a father has won an eleven million dollar law suit against them.

Oh, and the story about the Greenbush train from 50 minutes outside Boston that just started yesterday and has WiFi on board.  Just think, when all trains get it, we could ride all over the country and keep a running log on a web site.  I'd do that.  In a heart-beat.

One could make the point that Bush isn't worth impeaching.  Or, perhaps, there's just too much dirty laundry to air.  He's not grabbed power all by himself.  There's been a lot of enabling going on.

Who knew he was going to be the kind of leader who would jump out of the way at the last second and let his followers go over the clif?

Who knew Bush Two would be a coward?

sunlight, to back up my comment on 43, from today's news:

clip... A poll conducted for Channel 3 News posed the same question to 400 likely voters. 61 percent said they would be in favor of Congress beginning impeachment proceedings against President Bush. Thirty-three percent opposed it, and six percent were not sure.

The numbers for Vice President Cheney were slightly different. Sixty-four percent favor impeachment, while 31 percent oppose it.

"I'm really overjoyed by this," said Jimmy Leas, a South Burlington lawyer who has been a vocal advocate of impeachment. "Your poll really shows that here in Vermont, nearly two-thirds of the public understand we have a serious problem, and the way to address this is to remove the officials who are usurping power."

"The impeachment results are somewhat surprising, frankly, to me," political scientist Eric Davis said. "Even though their terms are ending in a little bit more than a year, a majority of Vermonters don't want to even see them remaining in office until January 20, 2009."

Vermont's legislature took up the impeachment issue last spring. The Senate passed a resolution calling for the president's impeachment, but a similar effort failed in the House.

In case you missed it yesterday--

Charges dropped in 20-year-old US case against Palestinian activists Press Release, Legal rights organizations

Oct 31, 2007

The 20-year effort to deport two men over their alleged political support of Palestinian self-determination officially came to an end today when the nation's highest administrative body overseeing immigration cases dismissed all charges against Khader Hamide and Michel Shehadeh, members of a group of Palestinian student activists arrested in January 1987, who became known as the LA 8.

The action by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) closes one of the nation's longest-running and most controversial deportation cases, one that tested whether immigrants have the same First Amendment rights as citizens.

Hamide and Shehadeh expressed both relief and happiness that the case is finally over but also anger over what they believed to be a politically motivated, baseless prosecution.

"My family and I feel a tremendous amount of relief today," said Hamide. "After 20 years, the nightmare is finally over. I feel vindicated at long last. This is a victory not only for us, but for the First Amendment of the Constitution and for the rights of all immigrants."

one last tidbit for you, sunlight (and since this reads the same as every article I've found about Gaye's support of Clinton, I'm curious how you came to the assumption that Vermont is not a progressive state because of her views):

Montpelier, Vermont - October 31, 2007

Vermont Speaker of the House, Gaye Symington says she will endorse Hillary Clinton for President.

Many other high profile Vermont democrats have already committed their support to Illinois Senator Barack Obama. Obama won a poll in August conducted by the Vermont Democratic Party.

He is also the biggest fundraiser in Vermont, and the first presidential candidate on the state's primary ballot.

snow in the ten day forcast, and if I lay off the blogging I might get all the crops out and the cornstalks baled

had four men working together on four big machines and combined chopped raked and baled 30 acres in an afternoon

I make old fashioned little square bales of cornstalks handled by hand too but no more than needed lol

don't get as much done in a day but the exercise does me good throwing bales

if I don't blog tonight I overdid it a little

I too am a little worried as seashell was taking pictures of police action last we heard

phone home, seashell, a little far to send Chuck
