Thank Our Representatives

Fellow Grassrooter,

A majority of the Senate has sided with the Bush administration and against the rule of law. It was a sadly bipartisan effort, with more than two-thirds of senators voting for a bill that includes blanket immunity for companies that assisted the administration's illegal warrantless wiretapping. Even in an election year with demagogues ready to scream appeaser at those who take a stand, it's a disappointing day. We should be able to expect more from our public officials.

Today, the other shoe dropped: As expected, President Bush signed into law the FISA Amendments Act. I know many of you joined the members of the Bergen Grassroots Steering Committee in denouncing this outrageous behavior by our elected representatives.

To our credit, we can point with pride to our Senators, Frank Lautenberg and Bob Menendez, and to Congressman Steve Rothman all of whom stood with us to the end. For those of us who are unrepresented by Scott Garrett, I guess we must shrug our shoulders and say, "When are we ever proud of this clown?"

Bergen Grassroots proposes to send the following letter to these officials:

"The members of Bergen Grassroots (DFA) wish to express our profound gratitude to you for your steadfast commitment to the fight for our constitutional rights and liberties. Your stand against the FISA Amendments Act—in the face of a disgraceful bipartisan clamor by elected representatives to prove themselves more "patriotic" than the President—demonstrates that you feel the pulse of your constituents and are determined to support that view with your votes. Obviously, the Senate chose election-year politics over our Constitution. We're proud that you lost with us.

"Bergen Grassroots pledges to support your future efforts to correct in the next Congress this dreadful step backward."

If you wish to sign this letter, please respond to this email with your name, street address, town and zip. We'll take the names of all adult family members. Please respond by Sunday at midnight so that we can send the letter on Monday.

For the Bergen Grassroots Steering Committee:
Paul Eisenman, Chair

- Genericize

By rich^kolker on Jul 11, 2008 12:10 PM EDT

Once again, I request that "front page" posts be generecized for those of us who don't live in a local area.  I'm not saying don't write about what you're doing locally, but add some content to make it of use to a national or even international audience.  For example, this post could have been tweaked to call for, and provide informatrion for, others to write letters supporting their local congresscritters (if they opposed FISA) or in opposition to (if they voted for the bill).

Off topic responses are welcomed.

Partially on topic:

I won't hurl slurs at bloggers .  Politicians are fair game.

Oh Denise, lovie, I'm in Argentina using a PC (I have a MAC) that doesn't work right  and the owner knows it.  But then again, I'm stupid.  I keep forgetting that.  You can continue to call me whatever you fancy...I will not do so to you...

Pat, I guess signing on to FISA is part of those "trivialites" you refer to ... the ones that Huron and I keep presenting to you folks.  It's just one triviality after another....

Take care now.  I might start shrieking in earnest.  LOL

One of my senators, Wyden, voted against FISA.  Smith, who's advertising himself as being able to reach across the aisle, voted for this horror.

I'll be working to get rid of this man when I return.

^^^********************

Next week there'll be a huge anti-gov't rally not far from where I'm staying this time.  People are expecting the worst....this city is angry and you can see the angst in the faces.  the price of tango shoes has more than doubled in less than a year.

Then there's this side...I was walking down Corrientes (a main thoroughfare) and sitting in a  doorway, no hat for money, was a young bald man wearing a red clown nose.  People walked by without even seeing him.  I saw him and burst out laughing and he honked his nose at me.

This city is full of stuff like that...it can be pretty intense or very amusing.

Off to bathe, rest, do yoga, mediate and get ready for dancing.  It's been incredible this time.

Presidential candidate Obama to sponsor Cup car at Pocono race

SI.com has learned that for the first time in history, a major presidential candidate may sponsor a race car in NASCAR's premier series. According to sources, Barack Obama's campaign is in talks to become the primary sponsor of BAM Racing's No. 49 Sprint Cup car for the Pocono race on August 3.

...

Obama will also be present for a second private fundraiser on July 30 in Miami, in which team owners Beth Ann and Tony Morgenthau -- staunch Republicans -- will give the Democrat an opportunity to spread his message of change. Randy Moss and Fergie are among the celebrities confirmed to be a part of that fundraiser in support of the candidate and his venture into NASCAR.

Bush, McCain & Obama To Visit Bohemian Grove?

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet
Friday, July 11, 2008

Outgoing President George W. Bush and both of his presumptive replacements John McCain and Barack Obama are rumored to be in attendance at this year’s Bohemian Grove gathering, an annual get-together of the global elite staged inside a sprawling forest encampment which kicks off tonight and runs until July 27.

Bohemian Grove is a 136-year-old all-male encampment complete with restaurants, bars, stages and lodges, which caters to around 2,000 members of the global elite along with Californian hoi polloi on a yearly basis in July. The camp is set within a 2,700 acre secluded forest replete with giant redwood trees.

Federal Judge Ruling: George W. Bush is a Felon

The Existentialist Cowboy
July 11, 2001

Chief Judge Vaughn Walker of the US District Court in California has ruled that President George W. Bush is a felon. The ruling stems from the case of Al-Harmain Islamic Foundation Inc. v Bush, a case which will now be remembered as making it official that Bush’s program of ‘warrantless spying’ is illegal.

6,700 Tons of Radioactive Debris Shipped From Kuwait to Idaho

Doug Rokke
Black Listed News
July 11, 2008
Note: Dr. Doug Rokke is the former Director of the U.S. Army’s Depleted Uranium Project. It was his task to clean up the radioactive battlefields of the Gulf War. Today, this leading opponent of nuclear warfare is vitally concerned that sand contaminated by radioactive munitions exploded in the Middle East has been shipped to Idaho for burial. And more, much more. He asked me to call his warning to public attention.)
