Caucus resolution-voting integrity

Written by: Robin Roseman on Jan 15, 2006 2:29 PM EST

Reminder: Your caucus is Monday evening, Martin Luther King Jr Day,
>beginning at 6:30. I strongly urge all JCDFA members to attend your
>caucus, show up early, and volunteer your services as a delegate,
>alternate delegate, or committee member. You cannot have influence in the
>direction of the Democratic Party if you are not involved! Please consider
>service on the Platform Committee where your progressive views can
>influence the platform.

Holly Hart has sent me a Caucus resolution on protection of the integrity
of the vote. I am passing it on to you so that you can take it to your
caucus. In my opinion this issue is the most important of all because
voting is the bedrock of our democracy.

Please post to this list other caucus resolutions you think are important.
Thanks for your participation in this important event.

>Hello Iowa Voting Enthusiasts:
>
>For those of you who plan to attend Monday night's caucuses (Democrat
>or Republican), Jerry Depew has written this resolution concerning
>verified voting in Iowa. Please consider offering this resolution in
>your precinct caucus for eventual adoption in the Dem/Repub state
>platform.
>Jerry is also creating a website where we'll post information abut
>county equipment auditors, federal legislation, bills in other states
>and other news. More to come...
>
>Last year, Secretary of State Culver has approved four vendors from
>whom county auditors could purchase new voting equipment: AccuPoll,
>Sequoia, ES & S, Diebold (that's right, you heard me). Each county
>selects their own machine.
>
>This resolution is aimed at getting a legislative mandate (similar to
>one which just passed in Wisconsin) to ensure that all voting equipment
>purchased be capable of providing Voter Verifiable Auditable Paper
>Ballot. Short of that (long shot), this is aimed to raise awareness of
>this issue and aid in efforts to convince 99 state auditors to purchase
>reliable voting equipment. Some counties have already made their
>selection. However, in other states, counties in similar situations
>have changed their selection after demonstrations showing their choice
>to be hack-able. Auditors in Johnson, Black Hawk and Woodbury
>Counties are strongly in support of VVPAB. Three down, 96 to go....
>...
>Thank you!
