Latham and Nussle thank you for smoking

Written by: Jason Hsu on Apr 23, 2006 1:31 AM EDT

I just sent in a letter to the editor to selected newspapers in the 4th Congressional District. I'm tired of waiting for the Democrats to hold the Tobacco Party accountable for accepting gobs of money from the tobacco industry. So I've decided to do something. I also wrote similar letters to various Utah newspapers about Senator Orrin Hatch and western Indiana newspapers about Congressman Steve Buyer.

The Iowa 4th Congressional District newspapers:
The Messenger
Times-Republican
Globe-Gazette

The letter:
Congressman Tom Latham and gubernatorial candidate Jim Nussle would like to thank you for smoking, chewing, and dipping nicotine. According to the Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund, Latham and Nussle have been Iowa's two biggest tobacco money addicts in the Congressional delegation. Since 1997, Tom Latham has received $71,500 in campaign contributions from the tobacco industry while Jim Nussle has received $40,000. If accepting the biggest kickbacks from tobacco companies represents the moral values of Latham and Nussle, then I'd hate to see what their immoral values are.
