Oct 11 Meeting: Iraq for Sale

Written by: Karen Kroczek on Oct 9, 2006 11:39 PM EDT

We will show Robert Greenwald's newest film, "Iraq for Sale" following a brief business meeting. This 75 minute movie details the commercialization of the war and the delegation of torture and military duties to contractors. One soldier suggests that having contractors deliver food service presents an added risk because they serve only at standard times (facilitates bombing by insurgents!) rather than as needed as was done when army personnel provided food service. Aside from the massive cost gauging that happens when Halliburton provides services, we have the added insult of inadequate quality and safety for both troops and US civilians. I was angry before but I'm really torqued now and I bet you'll be too.

Nick Egnatz, a Vietnam vet, will lead the brief discussion after the film.

Bring a friend or ten. We have space. The film is to open Oct 16th so you'll be seeing it in preview.

We'll also discuss volunteer opportunties in local elections and brieftly discuss the Candidates' Forum from Saturday.
