Dear Thankful,
Will you please give someone in Burlington and tell them there are technical difficulties with the web server and it needs immediate attention so we can get on with organizing events?
Thank you!
Denise, I'm not Thankful but did you send a note to the contact above and send to 'technical'. It's in 'about us' then 'contact' then 'technical.'
I posted to the blog in the hope that someone in close proximity to the Burlington office might actually be following the blog tonight and can get in touch with someone who can resolve this. I find that sending email this time of night frequently doesn't yield results. I understand from another writer that the tech guy is on vacation, so trying to get anything done until he comes back may be futile anyway. Sigh.
posting a thread was a great idea! I love the thought of giving the server a whack! Used to work with a mainframe that we'd have to give a physical tap to a relay on every few months. I got pretty good with tape drive innards (the most basic stuff).
HQ - just in case it's being worked on and that's why there's no time to return some of the calls... it would be a good idea to let the receptionist know so when people call in they could be told - would save a lot of extra calls and vm's and DFA groups would know when to expect it back up and running rather than have to keep trying... They'd also be getting responsiveness and be more likely to continue using the tools here.
Will you please give someone in Burlington a phone call and tell them there are technical difficulties with the web server and it needs immediate attention so we can get on with organizing events?
Thank you!
don't know anyone to call evenings. So I know what to say... you're trying to set up an event and it's not working - what message are you getting?
I'm trying to send out a message to my group. I've tried sending the preliminary test message, but nothing comes through. I've sent at lease six tests this evening, but I get nothing. I don't want to send out the actual message until this gets fixed and I know the send will succeed.
This is not the first time I've had this problem with the message utility.
- We all need to give them a call. I've tried several times, left message upon message, no one ever calls back.
By Denise in San Mateo County on Jul 23, 2008 11:43 PM EDTIf you do get a person to answer the phone, you go into someone's voice mail. Everytime. I hope someone else has better luck. The one person who would stop by and do something about it, and lives about a half hour away, no longer posts here - only on a rare occassion.
If I lived nearby I would have been there already, but I"m 3000 miles away too.
If I cannot get the message out to my group tonight about my Platform meeting on Saturday, there will definitely be people in Burlington hearing from me in the morning, and one of them will be the Finance Director.
I've not heard anyting back yet either but will give it a try.
Please use the "contact" form for technical support.

- "The website is not in beta" Then why doesn't the website work correctly? It is very user unfriendly. I can't even use IE as my brower anymore.

I have but nothing gets repaired and I have not received a proper or a polite thank you. They have all been snarky and rude or down right cold in their nature.
The warning in the comment box reminds me of when the subway speakers announce the terrorist warning every 15 minutes:
"This is an important message from the New York City Police Department. Be Araid. If you are a regular commuter, you will hear this announcement 12 times a week for the rest of your working life. If you see a suspicious package or activity on the platform or train, like a homeless person shaking a cup of coins, bring your entire subway line to a halt, and cause dozens of police in near riot gear to investigate your claustrophobic nightmares..."
Some folks at HQ need to stop taking themselves so freakin seriously. SRSLY!
I subscribed to "Scratchtower" Magazine when I pulled Gizmo out from under the drier.
I'm gonna have ot get to know more about theez catz :-)
you bet - looking forward to another chance to try out Gizmo, especially with all you've learned to do over the last year.
- Yep ready here - might try Pink Floyd this time
By Denise in San Mateo County on Jul 24, 2008 12:22 AM EDTthx - just checked chicagocubs.com - can't watch the game but can track the score...

By Susan Rowe on Jul 24, 2008 12:21 AM EDTI'm having problems posting comments on the main thread and writing a blog post.
I keep getting this.
We're sorry, but something went wrong.
We've been notified about this issue and we'll take a look at it shortly.
Please repair the blog and my account.
Thank you.
- Weird... you can't change the display setting unless the blog post is on the main thread.
By Susan Rowe on Jul 24, 2008 12:34 AM EDThmmm, just tried - neither the HTML or WYSIWYG circles were checked so I clicked HTML and updated - it said update successful but both circles are blank again.

Cool Denise - I see your post about the event, did the messages go out too?

from here too. Not quite with it tonight, ate something yesterday that's had me queasy all last night and today. It's getting much better but rest will let me be more productive tomorrow. Hope that 10-6 holds.
Denise, will email ya tomorrow 'bout the call.

hi mprov - good to see ya. I'll stick around for a little bit, not sure of the temps today cuz I stayed in, but it rained hard this evening. Major thunder, too. Sounded like several very long, loud trains running by.

oh, a couple recommends will keep us from rolling off...
hey, its like zero dark thirty where you are...take off...pillow monsters are calling...see ya later...take it easy...good night!!!
being an owl, this isn't really so late. Just checked the main page since I never got around to commenting on his conclusion and saw your post - good one.
well, good idea laurie, how long you think they'll let you keep on with these...
___off program=sad loss of control over uncontrollable masses___
lol, don't see it as a matter of 'let' - the topic is open and the posts are on topic.
I'd like to see it evolve from "Open Thread" to Open Threads with a starting topic/news/whatever... so long as they're up front and easily accessed. Been thinking about it - the one main post, running commentary threads are gone; some posted threads get to the main page and some don't. What's important is there be a place for running commentary available - Getting to a regular open thread post up 'in tandem' with a featured post is going to take a lot of time ~ big format and software change.
recued from the wc...
- Is anyone worried about this Fred and Fanny housing bill?
By Ronald Cloud on Jul 23, 2008 9:49 PM
Don't see it on todays blog topics so I'll just dump it here.
Is the "full faith and credit of the US Government" that backs our debt dependent federal government operations about to be flushed down the toilet?
I don't know. I'm just thinking back to the savings and loan "jackpot" of the 80's and the bold grab for wage earner's FICA withholdings Bushco and Wall Street went for in 2005. This administration has declared open season on the federal treasury and Democrats haven't exactly called them on it except for the Social Security piratization gambit.

"The bill, which congressional analysts estimated could cost up to $25 billion. . ."
Say, Blue Dawgs, how about that paygo?
"It gives the Treasury Department the authority to buy Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac stock, if necessary, and to extend the companies unlimited lines of credit. Together the two congressionally chartered companies back or own almost half of U.S. mortgages."
Turning the Treasury Department loose in the stock market?
I don't think we need to ever do that. Watch out for the big flush.

By JudyforDean on Jul 24, 2008 4:45 AM EDTLOVE these open threads once one finds them. How nice to "see" mprov and glad to see floridagal's great posts are not getting WC'ed.
******
Surely HQ has more important things to do than to winnow through all threads deciding what is and is not on topic, especially on an Open Thread (notice the ever present message is here too).
Why keep trying to fix what isn't broken when there is so much that does need fixing?
Sorry to have missed you. couldn't fall back to sleep so what else... checked mail and doin' a drive by.
All of us are keeping that spirit alive
oh, floridagal's posts were removed from the front page, not an open thread. Ron posted at the wc, not knowing about the open threads. If anyone is so inclined, it might be nice to put a link on each (yeah, every 3 hours :| ...to the Open Threads.
Beginning to think the increased posting troubles by increased numbers indicates a hacking. Did a little looking up stuff the last bit I was on last night - seems a possibility but then I'm no net techie...
Nite again :-)

Barack Obama completed his trip to the Middle East with a pre-dawn visit to the holiest place in Judaism where he received a mixed reaction from Orthodox Jews.
The US presidential nominee was heckled as he visited the Western Wall in the early hours of Thursday morning, bowing his head in prayer and observing traditional custom by placing a folded piece of paper into the crevice of the wall.

Maybe it's time for the entire blog community to walk away...publicly. I never thought I'd say that. I remember giving people hell when HEP was started (and I'm still on the other side of the "Oler is ruining the blog" argument), but the gang at HQ just doesn't get it, and maybe the only way for them to see what they're doing is to empty their blog.
It was our blog, but not any more.
Does anyone know how to get Jim (Dean) on the phone?

- I kept getting an inter-office 'comments page' of some kind last night for some reason. I've gotten it a few time before.
By Susan Rowe on Jul 24, 2008 11:08 AM EDTIt's some kind of page that lists the text titles, posters names, how many comments are made to it, etc. My guess is the HQ uses it to delete our comments. I guess 'they' (the deleters) don't read our comments. IMHO, that is a HUGE mistake because the media sure does.

In the About Us...Contact...area, where you can choose IT, you can also choose Jim Dean, DFA chair. Maybe each of us should send him an individual message. I will do so now.
At About Us...Contact...there is a phone number. But you can also use the form to contact Jim Dean directly.
Agree on the being able to recommend or not being an intermittent problem.
I don't think en masse desertion is our answer, it's a lose - lose. What started out as a Change Management problem has escalated. A confrontation was created that wasn't necessary, but here we have it.
We have always been respectful of dedicated threads for the bookclub and live guest bloggers - and our off-topic posts on main threads now are not in disrespect to the authors. They're a protest to disrespected and being left out of the seating arrangements.
I've come to look at it kinda in that dedicated thread way. There are now multiple threads from which to choose for posting - on topic and open. When this started we said we'd be happy with an open thread - for now it's us putting it up, but then we have always been a group to take the situation at hand and make it work. The communication problem is a separate issue.
There's still room to find a solution, IMO.
...to find a solution. I've seen no interest at DFA HQ to listen to us. They've decided this is what they want in a blog, and they're going to enforce it, with nasty warnings in the posting area.
Some folks here have badmouthed Tara, but when she ran the blog, there was an ongoing discussion group which came up with a set of blog rules. Not everyone liked the result, but they were the result of a collaboration between HQ and the community.
I'm not seeing any of that here.
Serving Size : 6
Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 lb Salad Shrimp, thawed
2 Cucumbers, seeded, diced
2 tb Dill, fresh -- minced
1 cup Sour Cream
1 t Salt
1 qt Buttermilk
Stir, Chill, Serve, Enjoy
(In my experience, even those who believe they hate buttermilk love this soup.
Don't tell them until after they've eaten it what's in it, lol! )
8 oz package cream cheese
1 cup confectioner’s sugar
1/2 cup milk
12 oz jar creamy peanut butter
12 oz container cool whip
Combine and blend cream cheese, sugar and milk. Add peanut butter and fold in cool whip. Spoon contents into a graham cracker pie shell. Freeze until ready to serve. Let thaw 10 minutes before serving.
Options I’ve tried: Drizzle chocolate “shell” on top
Add chocolate chips (on top or inside)
Oreo crust
I consider peanuts a super food. Just don't buy the stuff jiffy makes. It's just awful. It's too processed to have any of the good stuff left in it.
Sorry Annette....
Please use About Us...Contact...Subject..."Jim Dean" form at the top of the page to write a note to Jim about your frustrations with the blog.
I stayed home from Publix today to see the speech but it doesn't start till 1. Anyone find any live coverage yet? I saw Christiane Amanpour give a nice little history lesson on CNN. Then I saw some putz on Faux saying how the military 'preferred Faux news'. I guess they asked them -- I don't know what the evidence is. Good ole Bill Hemmer (who CNN fired, prolly for the blond guy) tried to say in Fallujah (believe he was an imbed) they watched CNN 30 min, Faux 30 min, MSNBC 30 min, ESPN, and rotated it liked that. The putz said 'no they like to watch Faux' as if her saying so makes it so. Did anyone see Brit Hume on Q&A Sunday? He was going on and on about Fair and Balanced. Spit up. One thing I did learn was his son committed suicide - was a fledgling broadcaster - got drunk and had a wreck - it got in the news - son felt he would never recover from shame so he killed himself. Very very sad.

- Executed inmate makes presidential endorsement
By Denise in San Mateo County on Jul 24, 2008 12:48 PM EDT(CNN) — Support for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama to extend to death row Wednesday.
According to The Jackson Clarion Ledger, a Mississippi newspaper, death row inmate Dale Leo Bishop's final words before being executed Wednesday night included an appeal to Americans to vote for the Illinois senator.
"For those who oppose the death penalty and want to see it end, our best bet is to vote for Barack Obama because his supporters have been working behind the scenes to end this practice," Bishop said, according to the paper.
Bishop was convicted in 2000 of participating in the murder of a man who was beaten to death with a claw hammer two years earlier. Bishop himself did not deliver the fatal blow and, not including contract killings, is only the eighth person executed who did not directly kill his victim since the death penalty was reinstated 32 years ago, according to the paper.
