Tribute to Bill Brown & other News from South Jersey
I.Tribute to Bill Brown
I know I received numerous inquiries into what we are planning as a tribute to Bill Brown, and I am sorry for the delay of responding to you.....but I was hit with my 2nd bout with pneumonia and am just getting back on my feet.
- At our last monthly meeting the decision was to have a tribute at a later date after we have collected as many as possible stories about Bill, such as his work within the State on the Progressive movement, elections, funny stories, anything that would add to describing the life of this special individual and the ways he has touched so many lives.
- Also we are looking for pictures of Bill to display that day. Once we have gathered the stories and pics we will pick a date and venue for everyone to attend.
- Please forward stories and pics to ProgressiveDemocracySoJersey@gmail.com and place in Subject line "Tribute to Bill Brown. "
II. Pay to Play
Most are aware by now, Governor Corzine has passed a bill on Pay to Play, thanks to the efforts of which started right here in Collingswood by a coalition of different groups working together. Congratulations and Good Work !!! Thanks to all who helped make this happen.
III. Single Payer Healthcare
Now we are faced with another challenge.....PDA/DFA PDSJ has been working with a coalition in South Jersey and a Statewide Coalition to get HR676 passed, not only Nationally but also on a version in the State Assembly. A bill has already been submitted to NJ State Assembly.
-
- We are looking for a donation of $100 to give to the Statewide Coalition ,[ One Plan, One Nation] , of which we have already received $50, but still need an additional $50 to meet our obligation. Please let us know if you are able to contribute to this.
- Also need volunteers to help lobby Lou Greenwald and Pam Lampitt for their support of the bill. If you are interested in helping to set up this meeting. please contact George Hunt geohunt1@aol.com or Tim O'Neill aloysius@snip.net .
- A strategy and prep session for a possible Adler meeting is scheduled on Tuesday, 2/17 for 7 PM in the Cherry Hill library on Kings Highway. An attempt is being made to arrange a meeting with John Adler for Feb.20. If you want to be part of the delegation, hold Feb.20 open.
IV. 6th Anniversary of the Iraq War...

- Saturday, March 21,2009
- Contact Philly Against the War at philly.march.mobe@gmail.com or by phone at 609.558.1869
- Everyone will gather at 12 noon at 23rd & Constitution Ave, Washington DC for the March.
-
-
- Needless to say we have seen what Commissions have done in the past....9/11, Warren, Iran-Contra....... they were all worthless.
- If anyone is interested in helping with this, we will be setting up a meeting within the next couple of weeks to discuss actions we will be taking locally, statewide and nationally.
- Contact Sue O'Connell selenasmom@yahoo.com or Joanne O'Neill roses4joanne@snip.net
- We are looking for people to run in the June elections in their Boroughs for County Committee
- These are the most important elected positions if we wish to change the course of politics and return the government to the people and not the Corporations.
- Committee people chose who the candidates will be for state and federal offices....also usually are chosen as delegates for Presidential races.
- We have the petitions for Collingswood, there are only needed 20 signatures to run..... if you are interested in being a candidate for the County Committee please let us know for which town.
- Also if anyone is running for a Commissioners position I believe the deadline [have to check on this according to boro] for submitting petitions for that is March 17th.
V. Accountability and Justice
There has been allot of talk in the House and Senate about holding hearings or setting up a Commission to investigate the criminal actions of the Bush administration. PDA members have been working in conjunction with other groups to ascertain that there be hearings, preferably by DOJ and not a Commission .
VI. Upcoming Elections for County Committees <<<<<IT ALL STARTS HERE !!!!
Just a reminder about the movie tonight .Taxi to the Dark Side and our monthly meeting on Wed. Feb. 18 at the Collingswood Library @ 7PM.
Peace
Joanne O'Neill
