Running as a Delegate to the Convention
Linked to groups: WeDemocrats
Dear We Democrats:I am planning to run as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. I plan is to run as a delegate committed to Russ Feingold, if he runs. If not I am running as a non-committed
delegate. I would appreciate your ideas on how to do this.
I am tired of the DLC ruling things. I want to make sure that the
Democrats stands for things that are important to me. And unless logic and data convince me other wise, these things should be written in stone, iron clad and rock solid. No more DINO's! I am tired of Democrats running on a Republican platform or carrying out or voting with the Republican's. I want to the public to know where Democrats stand on the issues and not try to parse words to stay in the "middle". Sure politics and government is the art of compromise. We need someone like Benjamin Franklin to bring us together in the Congress. But the
present course is wrong for both Democrats and Republicans.
It is time to get money out of politics. It is time to balance the budget. It is time to end the sick philosophy that taxes and government are evil. What we want is smart government, smart taxes and smart policies. Not small government, small taxes and sick policies. We want fairness and common sense, not catering to the highest campaign contributer. We want a sane environmental policy and energy policy that works on ending global warming. We want an eneryg policy that ends are dependency on foreign oil. We want support for public education, science research and retraining of unemployed citizens. We want a policy that secures are borders without building endless fences that can be avoided at the borders.
We want to use diplomacy and the UN to forge a consensus to
aid develoipment and avoid war. We want our troops out of Iraq and a policy of culural respect and understanding. Tolerance is one ot the principles this nation was founded on. Militerism is not the way to defeat terrorists alone. We need to appoligize to the world for our invasion of Iraq and ask for help in stabilizing the country and get out. That is what I want to put into the platform. If I don't win my election or if at the convention, I don't succeed, at least I have tried to engage in the dialog that we need. I am tired of the "Vince Lombardi Syndrome" of politics. We need to stand up to the "swiftboating" and get better at communicating our ideas to the electorate.
Thanks Paul!
I really don't have much to add except that I'm sickened by the chutzpah, the nerve, and greed of these people continue to defend/support.
Yes, Lee Raymond, the guy who made $17000 a DAY last year in profits from Exxon Mobil, is-a-prospect-for- this-"administration"-to-voice-energy-crisis-policy-solutions????? Do YOU shudder whenever you see Exxon signs as well? Ya know when you're watching a baseball game and you see the Exxon ensignia atop all the scores and you cannot believe what you're seeing?? The H3 hummer sports trivia question?
WHERE are the athletes on this one? So far, Plummer has been the only one to speak out. Given the amount of money athletes make, we MUST encourage more to speak out and donate their media/funds to candidates who will not murder animals and people.
Here's an excerpt of a letter I very recently received from the Defenders of Wildlife:
As increased temperatures rob them of their habitat, polar bears are starving to death and drowning in their long search for food. In contrast, oil executives are swimming in profits.
Now, former ExxonMobil CEO, Lee Raymond, will head a task force to determine the course of America's energy future -- a future that could be disastrous for our vanishing polar bears and other wildlife.
Take action now! Write to Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman tell him to give Lee Raymond the boot! Urge him to create a fair and balanced energy task force that will represent our national interest, not just the interests of Big Oil.
The Administration has hand-picked former ExxonMobil CEO Lee Raymond to chair an influential study to develop policy solutions to America's energy crisis.
But ExxonMobil's refusal to recognize global warming and insistence on drilling in the Arctic Refuge is part of what CREATED our current energy problems! Worse, Raymond's task force will mainly be conducted by members of the National Petroleum Council -- Big Oil's mouth piece to the government.
Our energy future must be designed by a balanced set of energy experts, not just oil company executives. Take action now -- Write to Energy Secretary Bodman.
For years, ExxonMobil has rejected investments in cleaner, safer energy solutions, undermined action on global warming and pushed for pointless drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and other precious public lands.
ExxonMobil has long championed destructive dirlling in the Arcitc National Wildlife Refuge. Such drilling could cause polar bear mothers to abandon their cubs.
Tell the Bush Administration to scrap this flawed approach and give this important task to an independent body that will provide policy options that move our nation beyond fossil fuels. Send your message now!
When it comes to deciding the future of America's energy policy, ExxonMobil and other oil giants don't just have a seat at the table -- they own the table.
Make no mistake: this task force is bad news for polar bears and awful news for real energy solutions.
Now is the time for America to develop new energy solutions. We can't afford to put our energy future -- and the future of our wildlife and wild places -- in the hands of the petroleum industry.
ExxonMobil and their allies in Big Oil have the Administration's ear. That's why we're working with our allies in the Exxpose Exxon Coalition* to make our voices heard. Please help us meet our goal of sending 50,000 messages to the Energy Secretary by the end of the month Take action now!
As always, thanks for all you do to protect our wild creatures and the places they live.
Sincerely,
Rodger Schlickeisen
