DC4D bloging on Mass Transit (this is a test run)

Nicole Witenstein, Jeff Norman and Joanne Kim makeup the core of the DC4D Mass Transit team.  If anyone else is passionate about mass transit and is looking for similar-minded folks, you're welcome to join us.  Our first order of business is to learn/share knowledge and info about mass transit.  To wit, our leader has asked us to:

" ... develop a campaign proposal for mass transit that addresses the following questions:

  • why is this important
  • what specific goals do we have
  • what's the timeframe for achieving them
  • who are the organizational allies (in DC and MD/VA) who can work with us
  • what are the national groups who can provide us expertise
  • who are the DC4D members who are interested in this issue?  "

For starters, the Sierra Club's DC Chapter is hot on mass transit, in particular the streetcar line for the H-Street corridor that augments the existing metro bus/subway.  Nicole is a member of this DC Chapter.  Nichole sez,
We can get more info on the streetcars project and on more general transit issues from the Sierra Club trans committee leader who told me he'd be happy to meet in early January with us, if we think that is a good idea.  In the meantime, maybe we can look at overall transit issues and develop goals for the region and priority projects.  Do guys you agree?     "

That's it for now --- as a test posting.
