Senator Would Win Democratic Primary Election With 42% Of Vote

SACRAMENTO, April 24, 2006 -- A polling memo released today shows that
Senator Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco) would win the June Democratic
primary election for Lieutenant Governor with up to 42% of the vote.

According to the memo, prepared by Speier pollster Jim Moore, Speier "is
potentially the strongest candidate in the Democratic party June 2006
primary election."

"After basic, balanced background information was read to voters regarding
the three major Lt. Governor candidates, Speier moved ahead of John
Garamendi by 41% to 36%," said Moore in the memo. "Because Speier has more
to spend on TV advertising than her competitors, this lead simulates
Election Day conditions."

At the end of the last reporting period, Speier had over $2.58 million in
the bank, more than Garamendi and likely Republican nominee Tom McClintock
combined.

The polling data shows that the remainder of the vote is up for grabs, with
Speier outpacing Liz Figueroa by better than a two to one margin.

"If she maintains that ratio, Speier wins with 42%, Garamendi gets 38%, and
Figueroa gets 21%," said Moore.
