Good news and updates

Written by: Carina Gunnerson on Aug 25, 2006 10:57 AM EDT

I have good news! Battle Creek DFA was successful in getting an anti-war resolution passed at the Calhoun County Democratic Party Convention last Saturday, and we have submitted that to the state party's resolution committee. It passed with only one vote against (we don't know who that was, as he mumbled it and no one saw him).

Three of us will be at the state party convention this weekend (I'm leaving tonight for it), and I will be going to the precinct captain training on Sunday morning for the Granholm campaign.

We will also have a table at the Springfield Farmer's Market/Craft Sale on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. If you could join us and help with getting people to fill out contact sheets and pass out buttons, that would be great! It should be a fun day. If I remember right, it starts rather early in the morning, and I will post details when I get them.

We also have new business cards! How cool is that? :-) Thanks, John!

We decided at the last meeting that, even though Sharon Renier isn't the best candidate, she's far, far better than Walberg, so we will be helping her campaign. Please give any time and money you can, as Walberg has tons of out-of-state money for this election and has tons of grassroots volunteers.

We are also working for the Granholm and Stabenow campaigns. DeVos is downright scary--he has very close ties to the Bush family and the right wing of the GOP. His brother-in-law is the president of Blackwater Security, which got all those no-bid contracts for Iraq (and lost millions of our money in the process) and NOLA (and there are people who said that his security teams pointed guns at American citizens there). His wife ran the Bush re-election campaign here in Michigan two years ago and did her best to try to scrub the voting rolls in Democratic neighborhoods. DeVos has cut over a thousand jobs at Amway and has outsourced all of those to China--this guy is bad news for our state. Even though Granholm is no liberal, she is by far the better candidate, and we need to work hard to get her re-elected.

As soon as I have a Word copy of the resolution, I'll post it here. It was so exciting to hear so many people agree that we need to get our troops out of Iraq and back home. The tide is turning!
