Ingham County Health Care Petition Action Day- Volunteers Needed!

Friends,

Today, over 1 million Michigan residents are uninsured. That's 1 million children, elderly, friends, neighbors, and co-workers who have no access to health care in our state. Of those 1 million people, two of them die each day simply because they could not afford health care.

The Health Care for Michigan campaign is working to change the Michigan Constitution to
require our lawmakers to act on behalf of all Michigan residents and develop a plan that
will provide health care security in Michigan. The excessive costs we are paying right
now to treat non-emergency cases (ie. headaches, back pain, etc.) in the emergency room could easily be saved to cover an increase in health care provisions.

The MMDFA has joined dozens of other organizations in endorsing the Health Care for Michigan ballot initiative and we are calling on each and every one of you to participate on May 3rd in our Health Care for Michigan Petition Action Day. The Ingham County Democratic Party is asking all precinct captains and delegates to canvass their precincts with the petition and all other volunteers to give 2 hours of their time to petition at assigned locations throughout our community. They are are also asking all Democratic candidates and elected officials to petition with us in their district on May 3rd. Getting this proposal on the ballot will really help us turn out more Democrats in November! Please help us bring health care to Michigan's uninsured and get this very important issue on the ballot.

We hope to have over 100 volunteers gather over 1,000 signatures on Saturday, May 3rd.
We also hope to have at least 20 other participating organizations helping in this
important effort.

Please email me at ptsernog@umich.edu if you would like to help organize or if you can
volunteer on May 3rd.

Also, if you are unavailable on May 3rd, but would still like to help collect signatures
and/or would like to be part of the ongoing signature gathering effort, please let me
know that as well.

Thank you for your participation! And thank you for reading this very long email!

Help oppose "Right to Work" petitions on election day- volunteers needed!

(PLEASE CROSS-POST THIS EMAIL WIDELY!)

Hello Everyone,

As you may already know, various interest groups are pushing to put the so-called "Right to Work" issue on the 2008 ballot, which would greatly weaken workers rights in Michigan.  States with right to work laws have lower pay, lower rates of employer provided health insurance and higher on the job injuries and fatalities.  "Right to work" laws do not guarantee anyone the right to work.  Right to work petition signature gatherers hope to obtain 1/3 of the signatures needed on primary election day (January 15th).  We need 5,000 volunteers at targeted polling locations to encourage voters not to sign the petitions.  Training will be provided.

Please volunteer to keep this anti-worker initiative off the ballot.  Volunteer shifts are AM (7am-1pm) and PM (4-8pm).

If you can help, email me your the following information ASAP:

Shelly and her children were very happy to receive all of the gifts. They got all dressed up for us as you can see in the pictures and made us a beautiful thank you card with pictures of themselves.

I hope we can do this again next year!

THANK YOU AND I HOPE EVERYONE HAD A MERRY CHRISTMAS! AND/OR HAPPY HOLIDAYS!:-)
