Look For The Union Label

Written by: puddle on Aug 19, 2008 4:03 AM EDT

is a song that's in my hum-under-your-breath resevoir.  Soilidarity Forever is a song I can sing in Chinese.  I also know both the words and music for The Internationale. . . .

BUT

It was suggested, over the weekend,

that what has been happening here is the result of union organizers taking over DFA.  My take would be, that if this is the attitude that union organizers take towards the rank and file, then the end of an era is about to take place.*

I worked a job that would fall into SIEU's venue: home health care.  And I promise you, I would have taken it no better there than I have here.  Do the peeps who run unions have the view that the men and women they are organizing are basically stoopid?  And therefore have to be *guided* or *ordered* to function?

Perhaps Union Organizers do not *get* the concept of grassroots action?

...i am pro union, but they do possess their own universe and will act against the party if they feel they need to do so.  i've worked with a lot of union people, mostly seiu, and they do think they own a territory...

comments disapear into the archives

lame discords of yesterday's remarks

no connection, no line, no thread,

meaningless without bearing

course unknown

shall i attempt

to concoct a diatribe

meant for me alone

or attempt a discourse

targeted at a silent audience

choices seem to be liminted

and yet remain the same

blank  blank  blank

fill in the blank

don't tell me your name

put up a thread

its all the same

who is that again

in some remote local

doing the same

as the rest of us

with the trumpet of glory

pretending something's different

when its all the same

i repeat myself

when its all the same

i've got characters left

to give away

who's a taker

who's a giver

who's sane

vote for obama

or realize the blame.

fool's chance...293 to go...

And I mean, not only the end of DFA, but in a larger sense, the end of the labor movement in the USA.

I was reading on another of my blogs about Wal-Mart in Canada, getting another judgment against them for interfering with labor organizing at a store. After the first judgment, a few years ago, they closed the store.

What was interesting to me, is that that blog is not sorted for politics, and the general belief of the Americans (though NOT the Canadians) who expressed a view was that labor/unions were basically evil entities, or totally useless.

This is not my view: I grew up Democrat in a right to work state, and have always rooted for Unions. Mother Jones is a saint of the first water in my book. . . . Flip side, during my five years as a union member, I felt strongly that the union did not protect *me* -- it protected the lazy and incompetent. . . .

But the attitude here towards the users is vile. And if that *is* the attitude that the new organizers exhibit as they go about their bidness, they are NOT going to have a future. . . .
