My Request for DFA Endorsement and Door-to-Door Volunteer Assistance

I have been a Dean Democrat since November 2003 - and have heeded the call to earn an A in Civics by running for office now and by volunteering for the Ned Lamont, Chris Murphy, Dennis Kucinich and Barack Obama campaigns.

In my estimation, public service will allow me to give something back to my District, my state and to  America.

**************************************************************

Energy - I will be giving an energy policy speech in which I outline ways in which Connecticut can retool its military industry to become a national leader in alternative energy - including transformation of helicopter and jet technology to windmill and hydro-electric
technology. Connecticut has a lot of wind energy (aside from Joe Lieberman's rants) and tidal power in and out of Long Island Sound on a twice-daily basis.

Employment - this new energy technology will help keep Connecticut's young employees here in Connecticut - instead of the trend of leaving Connecticut for their secondary-level employment.

Education - Connecticut's education funding needs improvement. It is currently based on local property taxes with some supplementary assistance from state income taxes - based on need. The only communities who achieve high-quality education based on this formula
are the wealthiest of Connecticut's Gold Coast towns. A more equitable formula - which replaces property tax financing of education with a progressive state sales or income tax to completely fund education - is the most equitable solution.

Environment - The energy technology development - which would create exports of equipment while keeping jobs here - will do the right thing both financially and morally for America and for our planet.

Door-to-door campaigning.

I will be assisted by an army of volunteers in my door-to-door campaign - including hopefully DFA HQ specialists.

My door-to-door focuses on having five door knockers knocking on 60 doors each - in condominium neighborhoods first and foremost - where doors are close to each other. If no one is home, literature is left - if someone is home, the volunteer asks if the homeowner has a minute to speak with me. I am right there in the neighborhood, so I can easily achieve a success rate of 30 direct contacts in a couple of hours. This saves the volunteer from having to "speak for the candidate - which can be uncomfortable".

***************************************************

Social responsibility - in my estimation - includes applying ones moral and ethical beliefs to day to day choices and decisions.

One example which I look to in these times of contentious debate about "undocumented workers" or "illegal immigrants" is Connecticut's ongoing discussion of undocumented workers' childrens' access to the minor cost reductions in higher education. If you are the child of a convicted ax murderer, no problem getting those tuition reductions on a financial as-needed basis. Why then should children of undocumented workers be punished for the "sins of their parents" ?
