Peace Action

The umbrella organization, United For Peace and Justice (UFPJ), is planning a massive national and local campaign to end the Iraqi war and occucation.  The central action being called for by United for Peace and Justice is a day of regional, mass antiwar demonstrations in 6 to 8 cities around the country on Saturday, October 27th.

It intends to (1) work to end congressional support of the war; (2) counter recruit, support for military resisters as well as veterans and military families; (3) initiate projects to expose the economic costs of war and the military budget; (4) engage in the 2008 electoral season to project a peace and justice agenda; (5) developi skills and organizing trainings for local groups;(6) challenge war profiteers; (7) and engage in a nationwide public education project.

 This campaign envisions decentralized actions and activities around the country, each initiated by different groups, beginning this summer and running through the fall. Helping to build these efforts will sharpen tje call to end the war, while also making connections to several important and related issues:

 August 6th is the anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima.  A week of nonviolent coordinated actions being organized for Sept. 14-21 by the <http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=ntLKtHLQ6FlxyHXDibpb3IaUl2Evqnpd>Declaration of Peace.The <http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=ky92qdgJp7CKE8hkmJFBFYaUl2Evqnpd>Iraq Moratorium Campaign,
