The people united will never be defeated

Picture this: November 4, 2008. You’re watching the vote totals come in, and the map looks something like this:

Impossible? Well, we’ve heard that one before. It was impossible to get a progressive former governor elected to the head of the DNC, but we did. It was impossible for us to take back Congress, but we have. It was impossible for us to win in states like Mississippi, but we are. There is no greater proof that the 50 State Strategy is working than the fact that Democrats now hold both Dennis Hastert and Tom DeLay’s seats in Congress.

You have the power to make that big blue map a reality, and that’s why DFA groups around the country are holding Unite for America events this weekend. They know that to change our country, we must first come together as a party.

Here in Burlington, our new DFA group will be holding a Unite for America event at the local Democratic Party’s annual picnic giving group members a chance to catch up with old friends, network with fellow activists and meet candidates for local office.

It’s been a long primary season, but Unite for America and other unity events are a pivotal first step in bringing us together and move us forward. The alternative is more divide and conquer politics and more maps like this:

And, really, who wants that?
