Lin and Mistretta: “No Lawn Signs”

On June 18, Doris Lin and Jennie Jeannette “JJ” Mistretta, candidates for Freehold Township Committee, sent a letter to their opponents, asking them to agree not to use lawn signs. Lin and Mistretta are currently awaiting a response.

The letter states in part, “From an environmental standpoint, lawn signs are extremely wasteful. Most cannot be recycled or re-used. Many pollute the sides of our roads for months after the election, and almost all end up in landfills eventually. Even during their useful life in the weeks preceding the election, political signs are a very annoying form of visual pollution to many people. As candidates, we are committed to the environment and the will of the public, and our campaign reflects those values.”

Lin and Mistretta have vowed not to use lawn signs regardless of the response from their opponents. Mistretta states, “Every election, people complain about lawn signs polluting the sides of our roads. We want to be part of the solution.” Lin adds, “I drive a hybrid car and I’m an environmentalist, so not using lawn signs was a natural decision for our campaign.”

Jennie Jeannette Mistretta and Doris Lin are Democratic candidates for Township Committee in Freehold Township.
