Tell the FCC what you think about media in America.

You get the first shot amongst all US citizens if you attend a town hall meeting next week on "The Future of the Media". FCC Commissioners Michael Copps and Jonathan Adelstein will be in attendance.

This will be the first public hearing anywhere in the U.S. on new media ownership rules proposed by the Federal Communications Commission on June 21. The event may even be covered byC-SPAN.

Where:Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College
When: begins at 6 p.m.Wednesday, June 28 www.freepress.net/future/=ashevi...

Before this public meeting occurs, MAIN is holding a series of workshops to help WNC residents get up to speed on specific issues and concerns regarding media policy and performance.

Wally Bowen of MAIN will be conducting a workshop at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 22 co-sponsored by MAIN and URTV, the public access TV channel set to launch in Asheville. www.urtv.org/directions.html...

The League of Women Voters will sponsor a workshop at noon Friday, June 23 in the Grove Corner Market loft in the Grove Arcade.

A bilingual workshop (Spanish and English) will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, June 26 at International Link at 87 Patton Avenue in downtown Asheville. www.internationallink.org/pp/en_...

Also, media activists from Prometheus Radio will be in town to conduct a workshop from 6-8 p.m. in the third-floor conference room of the Public ServiceBuilding at 34 Wall Street (next to Laughing Seed restaurant).

You are NOT required to attend a workshop in order to attend or to speak at the town hall meeting on June 28. The workshops are simply offered for folks who want some background and assistance in framing their public comment, which is limited to two minutes per speaker.

Also, in anticipation of the FCC's proposed media ownership rules, The Nation magazine has published a special series on the "Future of the Media." www.thenation.com/doc/20060703/i...

Please help us spread the word about this historic event in Asheville! Thanks!
