GOP Copy Cats

Written by: Dave Santucci on Dec 10, 2008 9:09 AM EST

Michigan Republican Party Chair Saul Anuzi, a candidate for RNC Chair said that the GOP would be following Gov. Howard Dean's lead, and would like to institute a 50-state strategy of their own as reported by The Huffington Post.

"There is a perception that we are a regional party and that we are a party from the South because that's the region we're consistently winning today," Anuzis told Politico. "I do think we need to have our version of the 50-state program that [Democratic National Committee Chair Howard] Dean had."

There have been several critics of Gov. Dean's 50 State Strategy within the Democratic Party, but he has won them over after two straight Congressional Cycle wins, plus winning the Presidency. Now he has won over GOP critics.

But the sticking point, as one DNC staffer argues, is ideology. Putting together institutions to make gains in non-Republican regions only will help if the party has a political message that can resonate among non-conservatives.

"By relying on wedge issues to win, they've used issues to divide people and worked to appeal to an increasingly smaller group of people," said the aide. "Dean's point has not just been that we need to show up in all 50-states but also that as a party we need to ask people for their votes, listen to what they have to say and be willing to work to solve issues in areas where we have common ground, even if we don't agree with everything."

So we have Taken Back Our Country and now we are taking back the GOP?  Then again, immitation is the dearest form of flattery.

- ...now we are taking back the GOP? Oh Dave...haven't you learned not to believe everything thing that you read on blogs or in newspapers, especially if it's a statement coming out the mouth of a Republican operative.

Caveat venditor

Latin for "let the seller beware". It is a counter to caveat emptor, and suggests that sellers too can be deceived in a market transaction. This forces the seller to take responsibility for the product, and discourages sellers from selling products of unreasonable quality.

In the landmark case of MacPherson v. Buick Motor Co. (1916), New York Court Appeals Judge Benjamin N. Cardozo established that privity of duty is no longer required in regard to a lawsuit for product liability against the seller. This case is predominantly regarded as the origin of caveat venditor as it pertains to modern tort law in US.

Joe the Plumber: McCain "Appalled Me," Made Me Feel "Dirty"

Politico reports that Joe Wurzelbacher isn't a huge fan of the man who made him famous. He told conservative radio host Glenn Beck that he felt "dirty" after "being on the campaign trail and seeing some of the things that take place."

"I honestly felt even more dirty after I had been on the campaign trail and seen some things that take place. It was scary, man," Wurzelbacher said. He told Beck he asked McCain "some pretty direct questions" about the bailout, and wasn't pleased with the response. "They appalled me, absolutely. You know, I was angry. In fact, I wanted to get off the bus after I talked to him.

Asked why he didn't leave McCain's campaign if he was "appalled" by the candidate, Wurzelbacher said, "Honestly, because the thought of Barack Obama as president scares me even more."

While Wurzelbacher was critical of McCain, he gushed about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. "Sarah Palin is absolutely the real deal," he said.

- Sarah Palin?

By Luevonia W on Dec 21, 2008 12:10 AM EST

Since Joe the Plumber likes the likes of Sarah Palin, that just goes to show you what kind of a person that he is! He is obviously one of those ultra-conservatives that has a big problem with everyone except for people exactly like himself, ie, Sarah Palin!

Need I say more?

The "new" Republican National Platform

Opportunism First: McCain and the GOP Platform

Coming on the heels of his pandering pick of Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican Party platform is another case study in the opportunism of John McCain. On abortion, same-sex marriage, stem cell research and immigration, the GOP bucked McCain's stated positions each and every time. [...]

- 50-State GOP will probably not work!

By Luevonia W on Dec 21, 2008 12:29 AM EST

Unless the Republican Party seriously reforms itself from a party of ultra-conservatives to a party of moderate-conservatives and middle-of-the-road moderates, they will not likely be succesful in any kind of 50-state-strategy! The Democratic Party's 50-state-strategy has worked as well as it has because the Democratic Party as a whole has reformed itself from where it was just four years ago. In other words, it is now a party that comes from the moderate-left and middle-of-the-road moderation. And, that has helped us in places like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Colorado, Nevada, etc. And, Barack came close to winning Missouri, Georgia and Montana. And, he did well in South Carolina, Arizona, North Dakota, and South Dakota. He got at least 47% of the vote in Missouri, Georgia, and Montana, and he got 45% of the vote in South Carolina, Arizona, North Dakota, and South Dakota! The Dems picked up a few senate seats in non-traditional Democratic states, and also picked up a lot of U.S. House seats in a lot of non-traditional Demcratic states!

If the GOP wants to mimic that success, then they will have to stop letting ultra-conservatives from the deep south run their party. They should be looking for moderate leaders in the northeast, mid-west, and westcoastal states!

And, the GOP would not be as strong as they are in the deep south either, if it were not for minorities and young people not voting as often as they should in mid-term and special elections. The Dems are doing better in the deep south, but they could still do better. And, hopefullly they will learn the importance of voting in mid-term and special elections, and not just the General Election for the Presidency!
