Suggest a Revenue stream for your town

Written by: Nick Arancio on Jun 22, 2008 1:45 PM EDT

I just sent a Letter to the Editor to my local paper (derrynews.com) suggesting a new revenue stream.  I would be honored if other Democratic Candidates did the same.  (Democrats only) Feel free to take my idea, you don't need to mention my name or credit me.  Infact feel free to take my model of creating a revenue stream from something the town already owns.  Here is a copy of my Letter To The Editor:

The Town of Derry should leverage its' URL (http://www.derry.nh.us) to make some extra money.  This website has inherent value, yet the town is not taking advantage of this asset.

I suggest the town list all the businesses located in Derry.  Next, the town could contact each of those businesses and ask them if they wanted to post any information on the site for a nominal charge.  Say, a telephone number and a short description for $5 per month.  Or, perhaps the business wants to post their whole menu for $10 per month.  The town could even start this process by offering a free trial period to see if this is something worth pursuing.

Imagine residents using the Town website to get the number of the local pizza shop.  The town already has a website, and someone already maintains that site.

In the next few weeks, I will be sending more Letters to the Editor to introduce other ways The Town of Derry can make money leveraging assets they already own.

My name is Nick Arancio, and I am running for New Hampshire State Representative in District 5 (Derry).

Good luck and let me know how it turns out.  Also, please provide me feedback on my Letter to the Editor.

Thanks ,
