Progress in hosting the Trigg-Reeves Debate

Written by: Featheriver on Jun 1, 2009 7:50 PM EDT

The Pahrump Chapter of Democracy for America is preparing for the August 3 debate between Cindy Trigg and Paul Reeves at Honeysuckle Park in Pahrump.

One obstacle we need to get over or through is, of course, money. The Town of Pahrump has jurisdiction over Honeysuckle Park. In order to book the site for the debate we must pay the Town a $300 refundable fee for cleanup making sure we leave the park in the same condition as we find it. If we do we get the $300 back.

Additionally the Town requires we provide $500,000 liability insurance to hold the Town harmless for any damages or bodily injury etc. We must provide a Certificate of such insurance no later than 5 days before the debate on August 3. The cost of the insurance is $500, according to a local insurance agency.

So, we need donations of any amount. As of this writing we have received pledge committments of $300 toward the $800 we need. If you can make a donation please contact Margery Behrens who is serving as Treasurer for the event.

We are also looking for a food vendor to be present at the debate capable of selling food to members of the audience. I've been seeking a BBQ vendor but not yet found one who has committed to do it. The vendor can keep all the money they make from the sale of their food. We primarily want their presence as a convenience to the members of the audience so they can arrive, and have dinner before the debate.

Kelly Almond is taking care of the entertainment. There will be music provided by local band(s), complete with a light and sound system.
