Eddison Walters has a community service record of more than twenty years. As a undergraduate at The University of Alabama, and a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Eddison Walters played a leading roll in organizing blood drives for the American Red Cross. Eddison Walters also orchestrated can food drives to help needy families. Eddison Walters Volunteered countless hours working with under privileged children at the local Boys and Girls Club. Eddison Walters was a member of the University of Alabama Track and Field Team, and was involved with groups such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and The African American Association.
After graduating from The University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration, Eddison Walters did not end his community service. In 1994, for six months, Eddison Walters worked forty hours a week as an unpaid volunteer, helping to develop The Community Development Loan Fund at Community Service Programs of West Alabama. This fund created economic development, by providing capital for small businesses in Alabama’s Black Belt. While Eddison Walters was at The Community Development Loan Fund, the fund helped land Mercedes supplier, T&WA plant in Greene County.
As a small business owner and resident of Tuscaloosa County for over twenty years, Eddison Walters understands the many challenges businesses in the district face. "Small businesses create more than 70% of the jobs in our district. The Bush tax cuts did not help most small business at all. Employment taxes are killing small businesses and jobs along with them. We must do more to help businesses create jobs in our district. Also, we can not continue to ship our jobs to China. Free trade is not free. It cost jobs in our community and we must address this issue." Over the past fifteen years, as a mortgage broker, Eddison Walters has provided access to tens of millions of dollars for affordable housing and small businesses throughout the district in West and Central Alabama. As a as a real estate developer Eddison Walters understands the importance of access to capital, and is committed to continue working to provide the capital needed in order to create economic development that will provide opportunities for the people District 7. Eddison Walters understands the importance of a quality education for every child in the district, and has volunteered his time working to improve our schools in District 7.
Eddison Walters is currently vice president at Nations Funding Source, a nationwide financial service company that offers residential and commercial mortgages, loan modifications and debt settlement. Eddison Walters also serves as Minority Vice Chair of The Tuscaloosa County Democratic Party, Vice Chair of The Tuscaloosa / West Alabama Citizens Collation, and Chair of The Carver Middle School Business Advisory Council. Eddison Walters is active in groups such as, The University of Alabama Alumni Association, The A Club, New South Collation, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and Central High School’s Business Advisory Committee. Eddison Walters is a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
A graduate of St Croix Central High School in the United States Virgin Islands, Eddison Walters is the second of four children. Born on January 6, 1967, in the country of Trinidad and Tobago to proud parents Desmond and Rita Walters, Eddison Walters moved to the United States at the age of four. His parents believed in the principals of "The American Dream," and wanted their children to have a quality education that would give them an opportunity for a better life. His parents made the sacrifices so all of their children would have the college education that they did not have themselves.
Eddison Walters proudly served in The United States Army Reserves and was honorably discharged. Eddison Walters continues to proudly serve the people of District 7.
