Elect Progressive Delegates to the California Democratic Party
Linked to groups: San Diego for Democracy
I was one of the "Fresh Horses" who ran for State Party Delegate in the wake of the November 2004 election, inspired by Howard Dean and other activists I met through his campaign, its successor DFA, and in the General Election of 2004. My 2-year term expires next month, and since I was elected last June to the San Diego County Democratic Central Committee, I am going to seek one of the State Party Delegate seats available to to the County Central Committees, rather than run for a State Delegate seat again -- to maximize the number of people from San Diego who are Delegates (particularly given that the 2007 State Convention will be in San Diego, for the first time ever!).
As DFA Field Director, Charlies Chamberlain, said in an e-mail yesterday: "DFA representation in the CDP played a key role in the Party's nomination of Jerry McNerney, as well as the Party's support of Debra Bowen and other successful progressive candidates."
DEADLINE TO FILE is January 2, 2007. For more info, see
http://www.cadem.org/ApplicationforDelegate
The CDP's very effective Progressive Caucus is also organizing "Progressive Slates" -- we have one forming in the 75th A.D. (contact me at ForDemocracy@aol.com if you are interested). You can get more information on this at www.ProgressiveSlate.com
So -- please give this some consideration! FYI, each Democratic elected and nominee for Assembly District, State Senate District, and Congressional District get appointments to State Party Delegate, as well. So you can also explore that route.
Let me know if any questions!

We're having an hors d'oeuvre dinner and we've already begun munching. We're also discussing whether to go ahead and start on champagne.

It's so awful!!!
This last year especially has been a turning point. Nearly every Iraqi has lost so much. So much. There's no way to describe the loss we've experienced with this war and occupation. There are no words to relay the feelings that come with the knowledge that daily almost 40 corpses are found in different states of decay and mutilation. There is no compensation for the dense, black cloud of fear that hangs over the head of every Iraqi. Fear of things so out of ones hands, it borders on the ridiculous- like whether your name is 'too Sunni' or 'too Shia'. Fear of the larger things- like the Americans in the tank, the police patrolling your area in black bandanas and green banners, and the Iraqi soldiers wearing black masks at the checkpoint.
Again, I can't help but ask myself why this was all done? What was the point of breaking Iraq so that it was beyond repair? Iran seems to be the only gainer. Their presence in Iraq is so well-established, publicly criticizing a cleric or ayatollah verges on suicide. Has the situation gone so beyond America that it is now irretrievable? Or was this a part of the plan all along? My head aches just posing the questions.
What has me most puzzled right now is: why add fuel to the fire? Sunnis and moderate Shia are being chased out of the larger cities in the south and the capital. Baghdad is being torn apart with Shia leaving Sunni areas and Sunnis leaving Shia areas- some under threat and some in fear of attacks. People are being openly shot at check points or in drive by killings. Many colleges have stopped classes. Thousands of Iraqis no longer send their children to school- it's just not safe.
Why make things worse by insisting on Saddam's execution now? Who gains if they hang Saddam? Iran, naturally, but who else? There is a real fear that this execution will be the final blow that will shatter Iraq. Some Sunni and Shia tribes have threatened to arm their members against the Americans if Saddam is executed. Iraqis in general are watching closely to see what happens next, and quietly preparing for the worst.
everyone be careful tonight and only drive if you really have to. ok.
happy new year all!
i'm watching vilsack on fox. he just said that he expects to win the caucus with cross-over voters? a joe mentum strategy?
Can anyone tell me a brand of champagne that is really good, not too cheap but under $70 and could likely be found at most liquor stores?
I think I might have one last farewell tonight. I don't like the cheap stuff as it is too acidy but a nice smooth relatively inexpensive one would suit me fine.
I stopped drinking years ago but found out recently that champagne might be okay for me to have once in awhile an tonight seems like a good night to try it.Im in heaven...........New years Eve.............wifes at the hockey game...........Ill watch the hockey game on tv...........also Twilight Zone marathon.........classic movies...........later my daughterand I will make cinnamon rolls..........make a tomato pie.............blow off some fireworks.............my lounge chair with a fake fire..............hot tea ...................English toffees.....................
Doesnt get any better than this.........................Happy New year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Funny y'all should be talking about champaign, because we just popped open a bottle and I am champaign blogging. It just so happens to be (lifts little pinkie and sips) Dom Perignom. Ususlly we just bathe in it and save the good stuff for special occasions.
OK, we had a bottle left over from my brother-n-law's rehearsal dinner and my father-in-law said we could keep it. So I don't know how much it costs.
9. We drink the really cheap stuff, so I probably can't help much. One of the cheaper brands I like is Korbel.
I like Dom Pérignon, too, but don't like spending that kind of money.
Michael, where do you get fireworks this time of year and is it legal? Also, why didn't you join your wife at the hockey game? Cinnamon rolls sounds yummy, but I don't know what a tomato pie is, lol.
<> Happy New Year all! I have to figure out what I am going to do tonight if anything. I have kind of skipped the last few years and cannot remember the last time I went out or had friends over for New Years. I think it was the early 90s.12.
Agreed.
11. Ususlly=usually. This stuff goes right to the keyboard, doesn't it?
I don't like to go out on New Years Eve. It's amateur night on the road out there. We thought about taking the el to First Night Evanston, but it's rainy and cold and I'm a wimp. I still have three episodes left of the latest Sopranos dvd. I think we'll just watch that.
Dinner is not exciting. Chicken/Tortellini Caesar Salad.
Okay, JC and John. I will try that brand.
A friend many years ago had the best champaign I ever tasted and it was fairly cheap if I remember correctly. Under $30. for the life of me I cannot remember what the name was but it want down so smooth and I had no bad side effects. IF this Korbel turns out to be good, I might be blogging drunk tonight, lol.
Donna, next time you bathe in it invite me over, lol. It used to be around $100 a bottle eons ago (at least at restaurants) when I drank but since I have been doing the no alcohol thing for many years, I have no clue now.Under the radar - Missed & Censored News Stories

The Top Ten Stories You Missed in 2006
You saw the stories that dominated the headlines in 2006: the war in Iraq, North Korea’s nuclear tests, and the U.S. midterm elections. But what about the news that remained under the radar? From the Bush administration’s post-Katrina power grab to a growing arms race in Latin America to the new hackable passports, FP delivers the Top Ten Stories You Missed in 2006.

Top 25 Censored Stories of 2007
Project Censored is a media research group out of Sonoma State University which tracks the news published in independent journals and newsletters. From these, Project Censored compiles an annual list of 25 news stories of social significance that have been overlooked, under-reported or self-censored by the country's major national news media.
We're supposed to go to a bonfire. I hate parties.
Turning into a real scrooge. Oh well.
By the way, the thread topic is really timely and applicable all across the country, I think. I know the filing period for state party offices ends on January 15th. We've just had an 85 year old fireplug announce her interest in being the Head of the State Party. She'll give the feller who thinks he ought to be annointed a little run.
JC and John, is that Korbel Brut Rosé Champagne? I just googled and I am not sure if there are different types of Korbel. I will head to the liquor store in a couple of hours.
No way did my in-laws spend $100 a bottle. This must have fallen off a truck!
Too much Sopranos, perhaps.
21. Firefox. I'm not sure about the Rosé part. The kind I like is also labeled Brut, but it is a white champagne, not a pink one.
Korbel is a California Vineyard. My parents toured their winery, and that's what tuned me in to them. I like their brandy, too.

Nein meine Schatzie!
I didn't even know that Korbel had ventured into that quagmire. Rose and Brut are almost contradictions. You live in California. Your local Boozeteria should stock Korbel Brut champagne. Haven't bought it in decades, but I'd venture it's no more than $25.
Nazdrovia!
Thanks, JC. I just realized that I met the owner of a liquor store here in Tucson when I went to the Clinton event and we chatted for a good 2 hours and he said to stop into his store so maybe I will do that tonight even though it is a bit out of the way. I am sure if I tell him what I want and don't want he can direct me because I already told him about the health issues.
16 cC, why do you like that one? Thanks, I will add it to my list. Both look fairly inexpensive so maybe I will get both and invite some friends over.
Well, this kind of looks fun but they are probably sold out:

magic. The only thing we can't promise is a midnight kiss. You're on
your own there, though the champagne will help.
This will be Arizona's biggest & best New Year's Party. Most clubs
charge astronomic covers for huge bashes like this but we're for the
people! $12 for two stages, three bands, blackjack, poker, acrobatics,
champagne, a midnight ball drop, 007 surprises, drink specials, and
more- it's unheard of. Last year, this event sold out well before
midnight so advance tickets are available.
Firefox, I think it's in the under $20 range, at least the last time I bought it. I'm now living in a dry county where we have to stock up, and so I haven't bought it recently.
Happy New Year!
I watched An Inconvenient Truth with my husband. Jeez - he should be our president. Hopefully, my 2007 wish will come true and Gore will run.
FoX, I have always found the Taittinger to be smoother, more buttery than the other NV's and their NV brut is usually around $35.
imo, it is the best out there for the price.
better even than the veuve-cliquot NV brut which usually runs around $35.
caveat: most of my friends disagree with me and prefer the Veuve.
Less known is billecart-salmon, the NV brut usually around $40...harder to find-your Whole Foods may have it or may not.
of the California sparkling wines under $20, I don't think you can beat Gloria Ferrar.
Champagne is kind of "my thing".
oops....s/b veuve clicquot nv brut usually runs around $50.

I love champagne, which is funny because I tend not to like white or rosé wines, with a preference for dry red.
Hey, Fire, there's an "Ugly Betty" marathon on....
I won't be drinking champagne, but I will be doing dancing till the wee hours. :-)

And I'd like apologize to any Jews, Christians, Muslims or anyone else whom I may have offended with my sometimes strident or insensitive remarks.
I truly love all of you. The fanatics who want to rule the world and invade countries to steal their land or resources I'm not so pleased with. Thank god most people are not like this and want peace. :-)
Happy New Year Eve, folks! this is interesting...
... With a small, global team, Worldchanging began showcasing daily content about new ideas, innovations and inventions that were changing the world for the better. The premise of Worldchanging became: A better world is not just possible; it's here.
... In November, the group also put out a book, Worldchanging: A User's Guide for the 21st Century (Abrams, 2006), a 600-page compendium of the best solutions on the planet today for designing and building a bright green future, with an introduction by Bruce Sterling and a foreword by Al Gore.
Bill McKibben has called the book "the Whole Earth Catalog retooled for the iPod generation."
Amazingly, Worldchanging has done all of this with a full-time staff of only four people, and a very small budget. This is one of the most effective NGOs in the world, but it needs your support.
Please support solution journalism. Take a few minutes right now to help Worldchanging win a matching grant from Yahoo!. The fund drive ends at midnight, December 31st -- just over 24 hours from now. Your $10 could mean $50,000 to us.

Fire.............fair question at that.............I treated my wife to a 10 game mini plan for us both, my 10 games I only go to 3 or 4, and let my daughetr pick the rest.............this year, my wifes friend(who is going thru a divorce) can afford a 10 game plan so I decided to let her have a few of my games................i prefer staying at home on new years eve, with twilight zone, movies and football games............plus the hockey game is on anyways................
A tomato pie is classic from my area of the NE especialy upstate NY.............sorta like a pizza but differant...............you cant get them around here..........anyways, I buy some already made dough from the sotre..play pizza maker guy and twirl it around and kneed it..bake it..pour some ragu sauce heated up on it..................wait a while and eat.....................like i said, my daughter and I have a few giggles making it..............
Now..bakc to the football game...........Happy New year
Read the email sent by Charles Chamberlain, DFA Field Director encouraging us to run for election to the California Democratic Party. HERE: http://www.blogforamerica.com/view/19104...
I love champagne,--
I guess you do, Ms. Dom Perignon;)! j/k
I love it too and also prefer red wines to whites, generally.
Champagnes are typically made with a blend of 3 grapes; Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. The Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are black (red wine) grapes.

happy new year
BTW, the number of troops killed in the Iraq War passed 3000 today.
seashell - ditto what Mike said! I look forward to your pov.
here's hoping that I will meet many of you in this new year. what a wonderful community and what tenacity y'all have! thru thick and thin - that's bfa bloggers, fer sure! thank you and here's to a Happy and Healthy New Year for all!
We decided to hold off on the champagne, so I am, sigh, still blogging sober. LOL
45. Okay - now I need to stick around to see if I can tell when jc has popped open the bubbly. LOL!
sea, PEACE. We may not see exactly eye-to-eye on the I/P situation but I've no doubt that we both want the world to be at peace...feels like it hasn't been for so long now.
LOL, vb! It will probably make me sleepy, so if I disappear suddenly . . .
jc....you mean you won't be announcing that you've "popped another cold one"?;)

John, I live in Arizona not California, lol. You should know that having been a Flagstaffer for awhile, no? ;)
Thanks for all the great info, folks. For brief time in 97 I joined a wine club and was learning all kinds of cool things from wine.com where you could select based on about 10 criteria and it would match you up with your preferred drink but then a new company took it over and did away with the fun, and stopped shipping to AZ. 2 years later I found out I could not longer tolerate wine so my lovely past time was kaput for good.Mike
watching TV right now without my wife too
I have young employees who want to party tonight and am doing the feeding and milking, and just for the moment left my better half stuck in the barn, so I could watch the kickoff. One of the great rivalries in all sports. Too bad donna but da bears have nothing to win by winning. Bretts lifetime mark in Soldiers field 11-2.
but if you see me post after the first quarter, kick my butt out of here
I'm a Bud man, put the Packers playing on New Years Eve and a beer consumption record might be set in Wisconsin tonite. (and that my friends is a bunch of beer)

Pretty well said Chal and Happy New Year..........its good we all have differances, it wuld be a bloody well boring world if we didnt right? Bottom line is that the needless loss of human life, regardless of country, religion or colour must be halted.............either we advance beyond what we are or we face possible annilalation as whole..................
It can be worked out.........we have no choice.............have a great 2007!
worst hell of my life was living with the owner of a wine store: if you couldn't taste the "leather" undertones or the third grasshopper on the leaf the day before the grape was picked, you'd get sneered at. Made me aftraid to drink wine for *years*, lol!

Should have refreshed before posting, lol! Two is better than none, though, eh?
I did blog once plastered after drinking green beer on St. Paddy's Day. (John Kerry is terrriffic).
