Community Film Center Network

Written by: Aldon Hynes on Oct 11, 2006 1:14 PM EDT

This past weekend, I was at the Action Coalition for Media Education Summit in Burlington VT. www.acmecoalition.org... There was a lot of really interesting material there that I'm trying to process and I'm wondering if any of you could help me with this.

One idea that came up was creating a network of Community Film Centers. These would be places where people would gather to view and discussion films. The viewings of Iraq for Sale, Outfoxed, etc., are great examples of this. Included in this would be viewing not only documentaries, but also good independent films that help promote a progressive agenda. Such groups could very easily grow out of showings of films like Iraq for Sale. So, here is my first request: Are any of you forming groups like this to meet on a regular basis? Would you be interested in helping me get a Community Film Center network up and running? Got any other thoughts around the idea? Please let me know. You can see my introductory thoughts around this at
www.orient-lodge.com/index.php?q...

Are any of you working on creating ongoing communities that will gather, view and discuss films? Are you interested in hooking up with other people doing this beyond the scope of DFA? I'm starting to get plugged into several different efforts and it would be great if they could work together to build a Community Film Center movement.

Let me know your thoughts.
