The woman who wrote it is a Vermonter. There is a link to her blog and a sweet story of getting the picture of Howard and her together for the media. Howard wrote the intro.
Sounds sad but very interesting. She said it might fill the hole in the hearts of the Dean family, but the ending is still the same.

And it's no surprise that, after eight years of George Bush, millions of people have found that by coming together in their local communities they can change the course of history. That promise is what our campaign has been about from the beginning.
...
Community organizing is the foundation of the civil rights movement, the women's suffrage movement, labor rights, and the 40-hour workweek. And it's happening today in church basements and community centers and living rooms across America.
Meanwhile, we still haven't gotten a single idea during the entire Republican convention about the economy and how to lift a middle class so harmed by the Bush-McCain policies.
It's now clear that John McCain's campaign has decided that desperate lies and personal attacks -- on Barack Obama and on you -- are the only way they can earn a third term for the Bush policies that McCain has supported more than 90 percent of the time.

We shouldn't have been surprised that Palin reads a teleprompter well -- that's one of the things you learn while doing a communications degree.
I would have been shocked if she hadn't. More interesting was the use of poor little Trig. I noted that Daddy couldn't wait to dump his inert mass in Willow's arms, who then proceeded to lick her hand and groom his hair, ew. When they cut to her again and she was apparently removing "sand" from his eyes, well, quick cutaway there. And then at the end, of course, Mommy carries his poor uncomprehending self around like some kind of trophy. Well, hey, there's an upside to everything if you look for it.
I've been trying to view both conventions as if I knew nothing and had come from another planet. The GOP convention has the stink of "minority party" all over it -- too white, too old, too bored, and way too desperate.
See, the virtue of being a Democrat and actually bothering with the folks who have no money is that Democrats actually believe in the American Dream and understand all those have-nots will eventually be regularly-voting members of the middle class. What Obama's nomination is about isn't actually Obama, but the size of the African-American middle class that lifts Obama out of the status of "boutique candidate".
The GOP only want new Americans who come here with money in their pockets. When they were going on last night about the Dems "raising your taxes", they weren't lying b/c they only care to speak to people making $250k or higher. Their premise is they're talking to the middle class b/c $250k isn't what it used to be.
But inflation isn't a good strategy for growing your base. Community organizing is!
And even Annie Oakley can't stop the runaway train that's the GOP without a viable strategy to appeal to the average American.
-- volney
Interesting insight here. I just could not watch the GOP convention much except for a brief glimpse of Olbermann. Even he blended in too much with the story of the hour though.
The opinions of everyone who are watching this GOP sad state of affairs put on stage is of great interest to me and probably others.
The same criticism leveled at George Bush that voters found immaterial, installing a president with a 60% unfavorable rating, leaving 80% of voters believing the country is on the wrong track.
Either people will understand what's going on or suffer mass amnesia, basking in the hypnotic glow of the electronic hearth. That's what we face.

- Al Giordano
By raehart on Sep 4, 2008 1:06 AM EDTthinks that putting Palin on the attack was a mistake, said it solidified their base, but their base will not be enough. Giordano is pretty savvy about politics.
Al said "she could have been big, but instead she was small".
