- Howard is first!

puddle ~ hope your main squeeze feels better soon!  I spoke with a nurse in our community the other day and she told me about 98% of the flu here is H1N1.  And it's just November...

-----

Enough with the chicken little biz from Huffpost and CBS.  If/when the White House says it's true ~ then it's true.  If 40K troops more troops do indeed head to Afghanistan ~ I will be hugely disappointed.

- Agree ~~

From my link on the last thread:

The two senior administration officials suggested the information is being leaked by Pentagon sources who are trying to box Obama in by setting public expectations that he will send close to 40,000 more troops to Afghanistan as McChrystal requested.

"People at the Pentagon are trying to force a certain outcome," one of the senior administration officials told CNN.

- Does that mean

that if 30,000 get sent, dems can go "Whew!  Coulda been worse?" :-)

*everyone* who's been tested in her town has been H1N1 ~~ including her and her son, who picked it up from school.

- I just heard today that at one of our large meetings this past September

By Love White Castles on Nov 10, 2009 12:26 AM EST

That 30 people went home with H1N1.

Maybe it's time to stop having large meetings, anywhere, for any reason?

- A lot of meeting planners would be out of a job

I don't think I can go for that :)  And the trickle down to lost business at hotels and conference centers is not what is needed right now in this economy.  30 out of 500 attendees isn't a bad percentage - and that's not counting all of the other people who were at the hotel for other reasons (this was in Dallas, by the way.  I was not there)

- Maybe you could give out flu shots as door prizes. . . ?

- We do give out flu shots for seasonal flu

By Love White Castles on Nov 10, 2009 1:36 AM EST

The rest of us were offered a supply of Tamiflu in the summer to take at the first signs of the flu.  Hope I don't have to take mine, though I do have it stored away just in case.

- Got my second turkey today ~~

By puddle on Nov 10, 2009 12:40 AM EST

All the little ones had been taken, leaving 5 or 6 monsters, lol!  The year that happened to my son, the grandbabies complained that all they ate during December was turkey. . .

The biggest fella was without a tag, so he's still there.  At 59cents/pound, mine was $11+. . . .   Wouldn't have done it unless I'd discovered the secret of roasting a turkey and NOT having the white meat taste about like leather. . . .

Coming home from the store, I realized all the neighborhood turkey houses are empty. . . .

Report: Obama to send thousands of additional troops to Afghanistan

The president is reportedly close to providing his commander there almost all the new soldiers he'd requested

Both CBS News and the Associated Press report that Obama is close to a final decision about how many new troops to send to Afghanistan, and that the number will be close to the 40,000 McChrystal requested. CBS' David Martin, more specifically, has put the number likely to be headed to the country at 32,000.

As President Obama has been considering his next move in Afghanistan lately, much has been made -- both in the media and by the president's opponents -- of reported tensions between him and his commander there, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, over the question of how many additional troops should be sent. Now, though, it seems that, whether because of the political pressure or strategic reasons, Obama's ready to give McChrystal almost all of the new soldiers he wanted.
