DFA: Congress Has What it Needs to Impeach Trump
Democracy for America reiterated its call for Congress to impeach Donald Trump following former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee yesterday.
“Jim Comey left no doubt in his sworn testimony that Donald Trump abused the power of his office in demanding the FBI Director’s loyalty and asking him to end the criminal investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. Comey’s testimony details smoking gun evidence of a President attempting to obstruct justice and cover-up the truth.”
“Congress has a moral duty to show that no American President is above the law, and must immediately begin impeachment proceedings to investigate and remove Trump from office.”
“The American people have made it clear that they believe Trump and his administration have crossed the line, and they are demanding accountability. That will only happen when Congress exercises its constitutional power to uncover and bring to account the abuses of Donald Trump and his administration. It has never been more important for Members of Congress to put aside political considerations and do what is best for our country.” - Charles Chamberlain, Executive Director, Democracy for America
A poll released earlier this week shows that Trump’s approval rating is at its lowest yet -- with only 34% approving of the job he is doing, and 57% disapproving. Further, 60% believe Trump did something illegal or unethical. More than 150,000 DFA members have signed a petition calling for Trump’s impeachment since the organization became the first major national progressive organization to call for the step on May 9, following the firing of James Comey.
Democracy for America is a people-powered political action committee with 1 million members nationwide. Since its 2004 founding, DFA members have raised and contributed more than $40 million and made more than 11.1 million volunteer calls to help successfully elect 917 progressive candidates nationwide.
