DFA: “We believe Dr. Ford… [her] bravery stands in stark contrast to the cowardice” of Senate GOP
This afternoon, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford courageously testified to her story as a sexual assault survivor during the U.S. Senate's Judiciary Committee's Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
Democracy for America's Karli Wallace, the lead of DFA's #StopKavanaugh campaign, on Dr. Ford's testimony:
"We believe Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. Period. Full Stop.
"The clear and fearless testimony that Dr. Ford gave today made it clear that Brett Kavanaugh has no business sitting on the U.S. Supreme Court. Ford's bravery stands in stark contrast to the cowardice displayed by the all-male Republican membership on the Senate Judiciary Committee who didn't have the guts to ask her questions themselves or confidence in their victim-blaming party line to demand a full FBI investigation of the facts.
"It's simply beyond conscience how any Senator could walk away from today's gut-wrenching testimony or the related, profoundly disturbing recollections of Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick without seeing how unfit Brett Kavanaugh is for a lifetime appointment on our nation's highest court. The Senators who are choosing ignore Dr. Ford's testimony are not only displaying a callous disregard for the role the Court has in upholding justice, they're making it clear that the lives of women impacted by sexual violence matter less than their own political game-playing.
"Our country owes a profound debt of gratitude to Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez, and Julie Swetnick for everything they've gone through, from publicly reliving some of their darkest moments to the death threats and character attacks they've weathered to patriotically speak out. If Brett Kavanaugh is prevented from reaching the Supreme Court, as we believe he must be, it's because of these three brave women and the American people behind them." -- Karli Wallace, Senior Digital Manager & lead of DFA's #StopKavanaugh Campaign, Democracy for America
